I think this was referring to the bit in tsr's above post about the 'numerous delays and fair bit of congestion'; i.e. they were not reported by NRES.

They were. Once or twice. But not prominently or consistently!

The following delays have recently affected the line (in the past week or so):

- Telecommunications failure - Reigate-Shalford Jn
- Level crossing operating difficulties - near Ash (continuously throughout most of each day - briefly mentioned on NRE)
- Cable fire - near Ash (actually mentioned on NRE)
- Train crew shortage owing to GWML disruptions - throughout the line
- Train failure - near Winnersh (mentioned by SWT but possibly not NRE)

All Ashford box signals flicker, it's like a self test thing, was made aware after a few drivers reported the signal flickering and was told it's normal.
No offence to the op but you can clearly see a green signal in your first picture and has been said before if it was such a big problem a driver would have reported it by now.
If they had it would be acted on pretty quickly.
Some signals can be a right bugger to see especially in sunlight.
How this made 5 pages il never know???

The thing is. Every morning I'd check hp my trains were doing and I'd see North Downs Line trains delayed by so many minutes, just marked delayed or marked cancelled and nothing to explain why, not even on the individual pages.

I'm actually travelling on the north downs line later but I doubt I'd be able to see the signal in question flickering, from the train.

The signalling on the Chiltern line is all fairly recent, so any colour light signals will almost certainly be fitted with SL35 lamps, if not of the LED type. I don't even know what an SL10 lamp is - it isn't mentioned in BS 469 : 1995.

Sorry I meant SL35. The section I am referring to is between Princes Risborough and Biscester, 2 aspect SL35 filament bulb signals they would blink on approach on many occasions but only when a green aspect was showing. I haven't been on the Chiltern line for a couple of years now so maybe these signals have been replaced. When EG3 was introduced many of the signals remained and not replaced with LED signals.

As the OP, I was at Deepdene yesterday evening and it was obvious that the signal's green aspect (the only one I saw) has been replaced with an LED one - the green was a different hue and the beam much more intense than when I reported the issue. The light output was also rock steady. NR have told me that they examined the signal and could find no fault but sent the lamp(s) away for thorough testing. In any case, problem solved, it seems.
