Yeah, I know have been playing around with the setting try to work out what does what! hopefully they will get better, was taken at 1/100 f5.6 ISO 200.

What camera is it? Seems like its over esposing and the metering is incorrect.

Camera is a Canon 300d, i'm sure its me though and not the camera, think also I tend to over do the after picture processing in photshop as well

300D is a great camera, sorry to say, but you must be getting it wrong somehow. How does that same shot look straight from the camera?

The curves function in Photoshop is often useful for images suffering from under or overexposed areas. For an image like the this, adjusting the curves as shown can offer some improvement;



However, if the over exposed regions are almost pure white or the under exposed regions almost pure black, no amount of image manipulation is going to give satisfactory results and the image is probably best binned.

When I'm out and about with my camera, I normally take one of two approaches, either leave it on auto mode (which with my camera often gives quite poor results) or use either shutter speed or exposure time priority modes with auto-bracketing. By using auto-bracketing, hopefully, one out of the three images will be OK!

300D is a great camera, sorry to say, but you must be getting it wrong somehow. How does that same shot look straight from the camera?

I am quite new to the manual side of photography, I suppose with experimenting I will get there in the end, Thanks for all the other comment, will give the bracketing a go next time

The version of Photoshop I have came from a magazine coverdisk a few years ago - don't know what I'd do without it.

re curve tool,
in the Image menu, Adjust...Curves (or ctrl M). Can adjust either RGB or any one of these individually. I quite often find toning down the brighter blues is necessary with the set-up I use on my camera to give a little more 'warmth' to the image - easy to overdo it though!
