Not been on it itself, but been around the area a few times. Scenary is stunning, and definitely a trip to do. Combine it with a trip from Oslo to Bergen by train as well. Go first class if you do though!
The pictures do look stunning. I can't see any info about first class on the fares page though!
IIRC, isn't this part of the 'Norway in a Nutshell' tour I used to see advertised years ago? The train from Bergen, the Flam Railway and then a boat back to Bergen? I think it was part of a mini cruise from Newcastle.

Sorry, when i say first class, i mean for the Oslo to Bergen train. Not much extra, and well worth it in my opinion.

What i would do is fly to Oslo, get the train to Bergen, spending a few days in Bergen (fantastic city, really is), and on one of these days do a tour involving boat down the fjord, then Flam railway up the hill, followed by mainline train back to Bergen. I think you can do all inclusive tours like that from Bergen. Just go to the tourist information and check with them.
Definitely recommend Bergen though. Shame you cant get the ferry over from Newcastle anymore.

Oh, and dont forget the Floibanen if your in Bergen. A brilliant Funicular railway with fantastic views over the city. Amazing

I went on it in 2006and would recommend it. It is worth staying in Myrdal and exploring a bit if you like that kind of thing as the scenery is stunning.

Been on it twice, excellent trip. Isn't too expensive - not by Norwegian standards anyway !
The most amazing bit is where the track runs along the mountain face - you then go into a tunnel and do a complete loop inside the mountain and come out further up the mountain face but directly above where you went in.
When Matt says about staying in Myrdal - don't take that too literally; there is a station and about a dozen houses ! The only way in or out is by rail.
I would recommend going on a cruise to visit Norway - a much better value way of seeing some of the sights, paying your own way is very pricey ! - going up some of the fjords in an ocean liner is stunning.

We are going on a cruise Moonrakerz! Just having a look at some of the ports today, and I found the Flam Railway. I have been to Norway before, but I only saw Lillehammer and Oslo. It wasn't too expensive as I stayed with a friend and only had to pay to fly there and back.
Always wanted to go back and have a look at the fjords and west coast, Wanted to sial fro Newcastle, but they discontinued the ferries before I amnaged it!

Beautiful line. Whilst enroute to Bergen from Oslo, I broke my journey at Myrdal and did the trip down and back to Flåm, it isn't cheap though and no passes (Interail, Staff FIP) are accepted on it, but it's worth it.
Theres a nice stop off at the waterfall - Kjosfoss, amazing the platform back being inches from the waterflow.
