That picture on their front page looks wrong to my untrained eye.
Isn't that an Operating Incident of some description? (If it weren't a staged photo?)

Unless guards have recently gained the ability to move through solid objects, in which case I really need to check the notice board at work, that'll be the door for the guard to get on.

At least it is not on a curve and some silly sausage pushes a bike/pram or walks in front of the guard before the driver sets off (had a few close calls myself on loco hauled sets and 4-Subs in times past).

Depends on the stock - this is vintage stuff (even before my time )

Mystery solved then

I remember many a time on slam door stock having to wait to walk through the train because the guard's door opened in blocking the path.
Not looked at which way guard doors opened on other heritage stock.

Given that the slamdoor EMUs would sometimes move off with the guard still leaning out of the door, I'm guessing this is why they changed to inward facing, so as not to hit people on the platform edge?

The doors for the guard's compartment on the Mk1s that the NVR use open inwards, while all other doors for the passengers opens outwards.

Very handy to have the door open and stand in the doorway while pulling into or leaving a station.

Very handy as it stays in gauge too!

BR Mk1 (and later) had an inward-opening Guard's door, but not all earlier stock did - from memory (confirmed by Google images immediately) SR emu stock didn't (though the motorman's door opened inwards).

It's sort of semi-off-topic, I know, but... which trains had the first guard's/guard's compartment sliding door? Either direction (i.e. up/down sliding or left/right roller mechanism).

Location looks like Haverthwaite Station on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in Cumbria.
No idea what stock is likely to be operating though.

It looks like it's Holywell Halt on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey. I'm sure that door is the Guard's local door anyway, so it would be closed once they have given the 'right away' and climbed back on board .

Not Holywell Halt - too close to the bridge, no fixed distant between platform and bridge, bridge too small and not skewed and too many trees. There's a glimpse of a station nameboard at the far end of the platform which appears to be a red/black, possibly diamond shaped background.
