I wouldn't want to travel on journey of several hours plus without toilet facilities. As said, it's down to the individual to decide if they are prepared to travel. I suspect that it will largely depend on how far the person is going, with other factors also coming into play.

I wouldn't expect any sanctions to be imposed on those who decide not to use a train without toilets for whatever reason. Advance tickets should be honoured on the next couple of services at least, and compensation should be considered where journeys are delayed. It should all help focus the minds of the TOC's in trying to resolve faults wherever they can. I accept that some of the issues are caused by passengers, but poor design and cost cutting also seems to contribute to how easily things go out of service.

According to ATW Journey Check today, 09 14 Crewe to Swansea (via HOW) and due 14 25 has no toilets due to train fault (should be 153) a journey of 5 hours and 11 minutes. Fortunately, you don't get end to end passengers along this route and many short hops.

Llandrindod has toilets, as does Llanelli. Not sure where else you could go; how about Pantyffynon? :P

After Shrewsbury, Llandrindod Wells (not sure if always available on station) but public toilet next door and there is a visitor centre (presumably with toilets) on platform at Llandovery. Llanelli station, I have found, pot luck if open.

Didn't know about Llandovery; it does have a payphone, and Llanwrtyd a waiting room, but neither have National Rail toilets. But possibly Llandovery, as you've said.

Lanelli's booking office seams to be open most of the day so not impossible to have them opened if asked I shouldnt think? Prob not impossible to make up a few lost minutes from other places iether.

Llandovery station buildings were re-furbished by local volunteers who raised money and were re-opened by Prince Charles in 2011 as a centre containing local artefacts and heritage together with a café. Presume open and toilets there at this time of day. Nothing at Pantyffynnon apart from signal box.

Thanks! It's a shame there's no steam traction on the line anymore though. It's not very nice when you run out of toilet vapour...

*gets coat*

ATW Journey Check expected next working 14 35 Swansea to Crewe to start 5mins late due to train fault indicating problem could be corrected at Swansea. In the end, left R/T after 10 min turn round.
