Timetable for the 18th May revisions are on First's website, although the Saturday 590-2 ones appear to be Bank Holiday ones. There were some on Metro's site yesterday but they contained a number of duplicated journeys and don't appear to be available at the moment - presumably somebody is having another crack at it.

One thing I did notice is a later Friday/Saturday evening journey from Todmorden to Rochdale and return, which would (I'm pretty sure) be later than anything that has operated in the last 40 years. Not sure if this makes up for the Mon-Thur last bus being almost an hour earlier than currently though.

Also, I've just spotted the last 591 from Halifax to Todmorden extends to Portsmouth on Friday (and I assume Saturday). However, at 2305 this is still 40 minutes earlier than the current last service from Halifax.

Before covid the last bus from Halifax was at 2315 so I imagine the later journey was short lived and probably for operational reasons (running the service from Todmorden depot) rather than any specific need

You may well be right on that, I've no idea how busy the current later journey from Halifax is - long past my bedtime! ;) However, what I maybe should have emphasised was that there will be no eastbound journey from Todmorden later than 2206, which I do regard as a serious loss (although not for me personally).

But - having dug further into First's timetables which unhelpfully present each service and day separately - I've just noticed on Friday (and Saturday?) the 2229* ex Burnley 591 continues into Halifax rather than terminating at Todmorden as it does Mon-Thur, departing Tod at 2303. And it returns from Halifax to Todmorden at 2358 as a 592! So, at least the weekends look a touch better.

Incidentally, during the 15 years I was driving, the 2300 departure from Todmorden to Halifax was always a Millwood garage working - Halifax had no late turns and actually very little mileage at all until Millwood garage's share was much reduced when low-floor single deckers were introduced to the routes.

* - was it really not possible to make it 2230?

Usual Summer P&R changes in York from July 20th, but some additional permanent changes on top. Internal source

July 20th Service Changes
From July 20th, there will be amendments to the Park and Ride services and Service 11:

• Park and Ride services 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 59 will all have an arrival into the City Centre by 05:45 (07:45 on Sundays) and a departure from the City at 22:30 daily. This is in addition to the usual summer school holiday increases. At the end of the holidays, the summer frequency will drop, but the extended span of operation will remain.

• Service 11 will be amended to operate every hour, as opposed to the current every 50 minutes. There will be no change to the route.

I’ve heard musings of the 2/3 going to 24h operation as well with an hourly service overnight, but nothing concrete yet

Any news of what's happening regarding the 10L/59 on Leeman Road?

It would seem odd for the 3 to go to 24h operation, given that it doesn't even run an evening service now (last bus from town is 20:13).

Having 24h operation would probably be a huge boon for tourists, as I can't see how they would enforce the "no overnight parking" rule if the car park is open all night - which would potentially open up the possibility of people visiting York for a few days leaving their car in the P&R for the whole of their stay rather than paying the hefty city centre prices as they do now.

P&R boost will be made possible by the Uni services operating a reduced timetable from 8 June, with the end of term:
As the academic year winds down, our University of York services will move to non-term timetables to reflect reduced demand over the summer period. Here’s what’s changing between 8th June and 7th September 2025:

ServiceChange
U1 & U2These services will run to a reduced non-term timetable and will not serve York Sport Village when the facility is closed.
U3 & U4There will be no service over summer.
UN1A reduced timetable will operate on Friday and Saturday evenings only.

York's 36518 has received a pride livery. This went passed me on Tadcaster Road yesterday, the pride livery seems to be applied more towards the rear of the vehicle, I liked it.

39518, 39519 and 39520 at York have all been repainted into the new Ultravilot livery, previously wearing the base colours of the York Park & Ride livery but without Park & Ride branding.

The New section of Leeman Road is set to open tomorrow (Tuesday 8 July) which will result in First's 10L and Park & Ride 59, as well as Transdev's 19 (branded as York & Country) being rerouted onto the new road with new bus stops from this date:
The replacement section of Leeman Road, from Salisbury Road to Marble Arch is set to open at 6am on Tuesday (8 July).

It’s a key milestone in the York Central project behind York Station, one of the largest city centre brownfield regeneration sites in England. Several bus services will be rerouted.

Numbers 10L, 19 and 59 will run along the new road. There will be new bus stops along the route, including on the new Hudson Boulevard.

Metrodecker 39523 has also been repainted into First's Ultravilot livery, it previously wore a base livery of the York Park & Ride livery but without the Park & Ride branding.

University of York

ServiceChangeTimetable
U1Minor timetable changes. Due to ongoing works, this service will now operate a new route between Campus East Interchange and the Sports Village, via Field Lane, Hull Road and Kimberlow Lane.PDF
U2Minor timetable change. This service will no longer stop at York Sports Village (now covered by U1) in order to maintain a high frequency between Campus East and York City Centre.PDF
U3Minor timetable changes. The bus stop outside the York Student Centre will be reinstated. In the city centre, U3 will now also serve the bus stop on Merchantgate, providing an extra, convenient location to hop on or off in the city.PDF
U4Minor timetable changes. Last journey withdrawn due to very low usage.PDF
UN1Minor timetable changes.PDF

I'm sure extending the U3 to Merchantgate will prove to be popular, as it brings the service closer to the City Centre, where the U1 and U2 both serve, and better complements other services coming down Fulford Road.

A few of those 'minor timetable changes' are substantial cuts. Specifically the 372 & X63.

One of them certainly does not have a more frequent service either seems like the service change summaries are also written by clankers. Do any humans work at this company?

Reminds me of the 12 a while back. An increase to a 12 minute frequency and yet had four buses per hour in reality.

Yeah they've actually cut the 5.27am 372 which I get to Huddersfield station which connects with the 6.01am train to Leeds and which numerous others get!! To be honest there is absolutely no logic to this as it is quite a busy service. God I hate First. That's going to leave me with a walk to Wakefield Road now to get the D1 if I'm to get the 6.01am. The station will be closed at this point for the blockade so need to get on to Brighouse. With Autumn and winter approaching that's not ideal, the walk to Wakefield Road, that is.

Edit: Having studied the 372 timetable further, the times seem illogical with no real times you can memorise ie clock face, with odd gaps in between services.

A halved evening frequency and the substantial changes to the morning journeys is just a 'minor timetable change' apparently. It's insane. I have noticed since writing the previous post they have altered the change gaining a later evening journey.

Your specific journey used to also be apart of my commute a year ago. It wasn't uncommon to have every seat filled by the time you are near the university. A lot of the changes to their network since the franchising decision have felt like sabotage. I believe authorities do expect companies to drop commercial journeys or routes as a whole due to 'uncertainty' it may be the reason.

Welcome to the world of AI generated timetables. They cut the Calder valley - Burnley link to one bus an hour (with some peak extras) earlier in the year - it is never hourly as the times vary from journey to journey.

The problem is that with franchising approaching, First or Arriva or anybody else for that matter don't have an incentive to develop their routes or try to encourage more custom, it's just a case of maximising profits in the short time left for them. I'm all for franchising but this is one of the short term effects.

Go Ahead & Transdev? They see an incentive.

First is about to enter an interesting era as they lose all of their rail and a lot of their largest bus operations franchise and even assuming they win a few of those operations back they won't be running them at existing margins. They should really be developing relationships with authorities and continuing as normal up to the transition. Other companies see value in not completely giving up in the transition period.

First will have some of their rail business left thanks to Hull Trains and Lumo.

As of late, First seems to be expanding into coaches. This year, they started work for Flixbus and in recent years they purchased smaller, local bus companies who have large coach operations such as York Pullman. This seems to be First's strategy for the long term, as well as obviously bidding for franchise work. They have also purchased RATP's London operations this year, adding to their business.
