Where did the standard class seat covers go? They're still there in First Class!

Do you mean the antimacassars? They've been gone ages, even when they were on they kept falling off or getting pinched so I suspect they probably just decided to take them all out.

Shhhhh!!!...you will be giving Northern some ideas as what next punishment to afflict on their long-suffering "customers" who are daily transported in the "delights" of their ex-Merseyrail Class 142 Pacers...

Well for a start I don't think the bus bench seats or Merseytravel seats don't have springs!

Relating to antimacassars the first British Isles based airline to stop using them was Ryanair in the early 2000s. So I hope TPE aren't going to keep following suite and to charge for luggage and to look at charging for on board toilets etc.

If ALL tickets were standard stock you could put a ticket scanner on the toilet door that releases when a valid ticket is swiped.

I get the feeling they may have been removed because they were damaging the seats, the fabric on the top of the seats (where the sticky bit of the antimacassars goes) had often been worn down completely. They tried sticking them onto the metal bit of the seats but that left marks too.

If you sit down you'd soon realise the seats are too uncomfortable to be first class seats on a regional service (or standard on a regional service!)

An ex-MML class 170 on a Liverpool-Norwich service once got me confused about where First and Standard class was but that did have a First Class section with the notices about it being First Class having been removed.

According to one Northern guard (who caught a boy and girl hiding in the toilet together) if a male and female passenger enter the toilet at the same time they can get the police involved even if they have valid tickets.

Noting the title of this thread, I notice that March 2013 issue of Modern Railways has a 2-page article on the Ardwick depot where the Class 185 units are based and of the electrification works that will enable this depot to be the base of the Class 350/4 EMU units that will run the new Manchester to Scotland services. The works are scheduled to be carried out by Spencer Rail, on behalf of Siemens.

Also I wish there was a charge on train toilets anyway, cause then people might be less likely to make such a mess in the cubicles, and being ASD with the odd OCD tendancy, I love clean toilets and would hapilly pay for that.

Having seen some of the charming "customers" on the railways I fear it would merely make it more likely that they wouldn't bother using the toilet but would merely find an alternative location to "do their business"....

Being more serious I would question if charging for the toilets, unless disabled individuals were exempted in some way, would not all foul of the Equalities Act.

Not necessarily - If you have to pay some passengers will take the attitude that the cleaners should come along and, for instance, pick up those spare paper towels that dropped out on to the floor and they shouldn't have to do it.

It seems to be too much for Northern to have a toilet door that opens and closes properly on their DMUs never mind having doing that when the correct change is inserted.

that's a good question actually.... in terms of disabled and medically exempt individuals, they wouldn't be charged, or probably wouldn't be allowed to be charged under the Disabilities and Equalities act 2010.

I am mindful of a problem of how such individuals would be able to circumvent the problem that seems to be a coin-access toilet that has been proposed on this thread.

How many EC countries have coin-access toilet facilities on their carriage stocks ?
