hi all,im new to this site and i have my asessment day on friday 3/9/10 for the role of a conductor.

i have already sat my interview which lasted 1hr approx and have now got the assessment to complete.

one thing i was worried about is the role plays... what is the situation and what aare they looking for?

everything else i seem to be ok with, im doing some basic concentration test online to help and as for the verbal im going to keep reading up on them in the pack i gave,
any other tips will be really welcome.

The PA test will require you to make an announcement based on a script which you will have to commit to memory the relevant information . It is not particularly hard, although you may be nervous about it. All i can advise is to speak slowly and clearly as well as introduce yourself as "this is your conductor speaking" andcnot forgetting a " thank you" at the end. Note however, this part of the assessment will only involve yourself and the assessor. Best of British with it too. What depot is it for?

From what I've read on various advice sites about railway careers, it sounds like you've beaten the odds getting this far - a lot of people don't make the grade this far. Just try to keep as calm, relaxed and in control as possible throughout - they're looking for someone who can operate coolly and calmly under pressure. The PA test scenario will likely be based on a delay or unusual incident. Honestly, it will be a piece of cake if you can manage to speak clearly etc. Not sure about safety test, do you mean the concentration test?

Aye, it is not particularly clear! If it is what i think it is then it will be either the SCAAT ot the group bourdon test. I would contact their HR section to confirm though. Also, just google the above tests to get an idea of what i mean. Can anyonr from TPE help here?

ive downloaded that online test and its proving to be quite a challenge to get even past half way of each page..

any ideas of what the role play will throw up?

It will probably involve the assessor taking the role of a disabled or needy passenger, and you will of course be the conductor. You will assist them with their query using the tools available in the script. Probably booking them assistance or providing them with information. If you deem that you cannot provide them with what they ask then you should direct them to someone who can. It is really basic customer service stuff, if you've done anything similar then you will have no trouble!

Yes as long as you pass the medical, your in.
As long as your Refrences check out your be good to go.

Good luck with it. I can never actually get to Guard grade pass all the tests, medical the company just dont like me LOL.

i know its usually a week of earlies and a week of lates but in what respect? and what hours?

Cleethorpes (land that time forgot) has some of the easiest shift patterns.

Unlike the 'workers' at other depots Cleethorpes has some of the most cushy jobs, with no night work. ;o)

out of interest do you need any specific qualifications ie eng,maths being the obvious ones at any level or is it a level stuff. just that i'm looking at it when i leave the RN. Congrats on getting the job.

nope.. no formal qualifications at all... i did very average in my schooling and did no A levels etc..
in fact... i did take my qualifications to my interview for them to look at but they didnt even bother looking.

they are more interested as to what you have to offer experience wise and how you come across...
