Started the way I always start, on a 3 car Class 313, 313029, but then it got better as I had both EC stocks from Stevenage to York (changing at Peterborough) :D

Well my first move of the year was Class 24 D5061 on January 1st. I also managed a record for my first 'NB' powered/unheated train of the yearlater that day when Class 25 D7628 was kicked out owing to loco failures. Well done to the NYMR on giving out free hot drinks to passengers on this train when it started to get cold.

First train of 2013 was a 'N' line NYC Subway train - first in the UK was my bog standard usual Bedford-London HST on the morning of Friday 4th January (not counting the underground transit from the 'B' gates to the main Terminal 5 building at Heathrow :P )

First train of the year for me was on the 7th of January on the 21:13 Southern service departing Milton Keynes Central on a Class 377 to Clapham Junction; where there was a twenty minute wait to catch the 22:53 to Hastings which pulled in at 00:52.

I was particularly happy at the amount of freight traffic I saw along the first half of the journey. At least three lots of containers. Also, the carriage I was in from Clapham onwards was absolutely freezing...not that it was a bad thing! Guard was lovely and everything; arranging to receive a bottle of water from the platform staff at Gatwick Airport for a passenger.

Cost less than a fiver too.

On a train somewhere in Europe
Only just seen this thread

Due to the fact that LM didn't wake up early enough to get me to work on 1st January, my first train of 2013 was 350 104 on the 2nd, and my second train was.......350 104 back home again!

er, a 142 :|

the 12:33 from Elsecar to Meadowhell last saturday to be precise, and it was packed to standing.

Followed that up with a deserted 144 on the 12:59 from Meadowhell to Bentley

142086 on the 1735 from Blackburn - Preston today.

On time, heater on full and a comfy seat, every road around Blackburn gridlocked due to snow - why do people drive again?
