Folks,
over the past couple of weeks l have noticed a new fleet of First Scotrail Trains stabled in Motherwell, near to the Level crossing at Logans Road.I have also observed these trains go up and down the west coast main line empty several times a day.

Today l saw them being hauled as part of a freight load near motherwell.

My nose is bothering me......What line are they for?and why would they be part of a freight load?

They will be the Class 380s (see here). They are still in the process of being delivered (hence why they are running around in freight consists those will have been new trains you saw being delivered). They will be deployed onto the Ayrshire, Inverclyde and North Berwick Lines, some are already in service others in testing before acceptance.

The ones sitting in the Darby sidings are being used for driver training at the moment, up and down to Carstairs as i recall.

That's what I believe as well. The new 380s are primarily intended for Glasgow-Inverclyde/Ayrshire duties, however they will also operate North Berwick-Edinburgh(-Glasgow) trains once the 322s go back down South, so they're at Motherwell just now for driver training between Motherwell and Carstairs.

The freight load you observed would be the delivery from the Channel Tunnel up to Polmadie Depot. This train (7X80) runs about once a week, through the night, and takes one or two units up at a time. There's only a few deliveries to go, and they should all be up by the end of May/start of June IIRC.
