First ScotRail assessment?

Hi all,

I have an assessment with FSR looming and just wondered if anyone has been for one recently? or is anyone scheduled to go in the near future.

I got through the application phase after spending 2 days completing the form, then got the call to check I was happy to continue to an assessment, got the training material and free ticket to get me there and am just practicing at the moment.

The process as I understand it is

Assessment day 1 (half day)

mechanical comprehension
concent.........forgot what I was writing there.....ration (only joking)
reaction + co-ordination
structured interview part 1 - fill in form and if you pass day 1 you get to go to day 2

day 2

have the structured interview following on from filling in the form
have a medical

last step is the interview at the depot.

Any comments or advice would be great.

Hi,

Went through the same assessment here for NXEA and what you say pretty much sums up how most of the assessments are done with TOCs.

The order may vary but for me it was:

Group Bourdon conc test
Mech Comp
TRP:- test on how good you are at learning and recalling new info
Reaction test: Done in a room with a computer and coloured paddles.

On day 2 (which was a fortnight later)

Structured interview.

Presumably this is for the "vacancies" in Edinburgh
I've managed to negotiate three people from my previous company and they will also be attending
Edinburgh is going to need something like an extra 120 drivers ready for when the Airdrie - Bathgate line opens, the Shotts high frequency, and from what I hear recruitment is not going well!

do you think it is this because the quality of candidate is lower than required or quantity of original applications are down?


I had the assessment yesterday (Thursday) and there were 16 of us, all for the Edinburgh/Glasgow post currently on the recuitment pages. The assessors said there was an assessment that morning and afternoon and I beleive there is also another on Wed next week.

There was good cross-section of ages from mid twenties to mid fifties and 1 woman.

The assessor did say that the results are based on Percentiles so the pass mark is derived from the actual results of the applicants on the day but there is still a minimum that must be met. So if everyone was below that minimum noone would get through.

We got the results by 5pm the same day, so I am glad to say I got through to the next stage.

Depot interview here I come.

Good luck with your interview. Is the Edinbrugh job based at Haymarket TMD or Waverley station. I only ask because I nearly applied after they said they would always consider qualified drivers aswell for trainee positions and was curious.

Do you know what routes/traction Edinburgh cover?

when I aplied it was only the Bathgate post on the FSRrecruitment pages. There are now loads of th.

I do not know the routes or tractions for edinburgh but would like to know.

I believe they can do it in any order. Depot interview was quite an experience, not often have i had so many people firing questions at me. As most people say, research the company, they WILL ask you questions on it!!
