First S stock in passenger service

Regarding the S stock, they could at least have made it look better, it looks all round and bulgy!! Why is modern design so ugly?

The bug-eyed monster look is indeed not for everyone. Including me.

External look aside, the gripe about all these new trains is the plasticky, creaky, knock-knock-hollow-soundy furbishment within, like a bargain basement value car dashboard.

An example of a nice-looking modern-day Bomby MU is, however, Overground's Class 378, although the plastic complaint can be extended there too.

Both the S stock and 2009 stock look buggy BUT they are a improvement on existing stock so are welcomed.

Also, I've just taken a look at the Movia family offering by Bombardier and the Toronto Rocket from the same family has some really cool features ie active route maps which tracks the train's progress along the line which tells you what stations have been visited and which are yet to be visited.

Active route maps are far too advanced for the UK! I mean, we're wetting our pants over countdown timers on crossings in a few locations around town - despite them being used all over the world.

We still install traffic lights that have no sensors and operate 24/7 on fixed phasings too! Sometimes I wonder how we ever pioneered anything in the old days.

Yes but seeing as this is new stock, it would have been nice to have the feature - if it's good enough for our cannuck cousins then it's surely good enough for londoners!

There are loads of things we should have, or have done, but don't - either for cost cutting or because those in charge have no desire to innovate.
