They were definitely operated - plenty of photos on flickr with the 101 being a regular haunt. So regular Streetdecks would be fine on there or the 18.
Sorry, totally forgot about the 5 x 63 plates they kept, which eventually went to Halifax after the ex York Streetdecks arrived. I was thinking of the 58 plate examples that came up and weren't really operated, ending up at Taunton.
Route 18 would no longer be an option as that now interworks with the 6/6a which has a low bridge on the route in Longton. In the past the route interworked with the 101, including around the time the E400s were here.

Rumours of 8 low height StreetDecks moving to Olive Grove. The current single deck only on 272 struggles with loadings particularly at weekends
It's not a rumour its happening 3 are coming over to Olive Grove this afternoon.

Funnily enough, I though you were referring to the 63 plates and never considered the older ones that headed back to Somerset. I remember the 18/101 were interworked at some point but slept since then so don't know about current arrangements

Guess that explains the sudden appearance of ex badgerline stock as ive only been seeing those or the keele constellations on the 25 recently.

Also will mean a big reduction in how colourful the 25 route has become as now its either going to be blue constellation buses or the badger units (which most are in the new first livery) appearing on the route.

Separate point: does anyone know why first are starting to repaint all the orange mainline units into the new corporate branding. Very odd decision really considering the mainline is meant to unique to stoke?

Because first are replacing all local branding.

I can see why but also with the orange mainline buses in particular, they were only refurbished a few years ago.

The constellation streetdecks have only been in service for not even 2 years yet. Are they going to turn grey and blue too?

I don't think there is much of an order to how they are being painted except for the ex Bristol streetdecks and eventually I would imagine the full fleet will be in the new livery.

Only 1 of the mainline vehicles have been done so far and by the looks of things E200MMC 67158 is in for paint which is one of the original batch for Stoke.

But there are other buses still with the old livery and leather , which could be done first

Perhaps the logic is this...

They've done one example AFAIK - perhaps that vehicle needed a number of replacement panels and vinyls and it just was considered more cost effective to repaint in the ultraviolet scheme?

I'd imagine that the ex Badgerline ones will be prioritised, and then the ex Eclipse e200mmc. That will remove a couple of the existing rogue legacy liveries. However, they will also repaint any vehicles opportunistically when they're VOR for a while/require a repaint if several new panels are required/vinyls are removed and it really impacts the appearance.

Spot on with this I think. Certainly evidenced with 3 ex-Leicester long term VOR streetlites 63349/59/61. Does anyone know what parts these are waiting for? 2 of them haven't been in service for 9 months, with the other not far behind that.

There was an unbranded badger line unit running around last week though it has disappeared this week with a blue and grey unbranded unit taking its place. Possibly gone for repaint?

I didn't see it physically, but looking at the tracking map it appears that one if the high bridge Steetdecks - 35689 - was incorrectly allocated to a 36A yesterday evening. This route goes under the railway bridge in Longton which is too low to accommodate these buses. Looks like the driver had to do a U-turn at the bridge, which can't have been easy.

And this is why the city has always had low height double deckers....apart from the odd purchase by Beresfords back in the day and a couple of those have gone under glebe street bridge

This is why the company prohibited any double decker from going near Longton when they had both the E400s (which didn't fit) and the Streetdecks (which did fit). That's 2 visually very different vehicle types. Having 2 different heights of otherwise practically identical vehicles is just asking for this to happen

This is a good point I'd not thought about when I initially expressed my surprise that we'd be getting 7x full height Streetdecks to replace the ex York low height examples. What compounds the problem is that there are some running boards on the 25 (biggest user of these full height examples) that interwork with services that go under this bridge in Longton. Therefore I can see it happening again.

Just a general wondering about the 2015 ex Leicester Streetlites in comparison to the other 2013/4 registered examples in the fleet.
Ever since these 2015 examples transferred, there always seems to be a larger number off the road compared to the older versions. And this seems to have only got worse in the 2 years since they came over. Today for example (according to bustimes.org tracking data, so obviously pinch of salt required), of the 2013/4 22 of 24 are out in active service, whereas of the 2015 lot only 8 of 17 are out, and this is typical of my recent observations.
Is there any particular reason the reliability of the newer ones is worse? Is this mirrored across other Streetlite operating fleets? Or just bad luck in terms of the example with Potteries?

Streetlite 63250 SN15ABF is the latest Potteries native to receive the new Ultraviolet livery. Saw it emerging from the paint shop earlier today

Certainly seem to be cracking on with the Streetlites now. A could of others seem to have been done since I last checked on bus times.

They certainly are, with a significant number of the fuchsia fronted ones taken care of. Which makes sense as they've been in this from new, nearly 10 years ago. However, it seems one of the last two refurbished at Thorntons less than 3 years ago - 63178 - has also been repainted (accordingto bustimes.org, I've it yet seen it myself). Shame these mainline ones are also getting done ahead of the 2015/6 buses that haven't been repainted/refurbished since new. But I guess First are simply on a mission to eradicate all old liveries, irrespective of the length of time since last refurb.

In the last couple of days 3 further ex Weston Streetdecks that were earmarked for onward transfer to First South Yorkshire after repaint have ended up entering service with Potteries (35666, 35678 & 35679). Two have been amended on bustimes.org to being Potteries vehicles, with 35666 showing still as a FSY vehicle.
Does anyone know if these are indeed a permanent transfer, and if any vehicles will be departing in their place? I'm not aware of any vehicle requirement increase beyond the normal uplift when Cheadle schools and Keele return, and I thought Potteries already had sufficient deckers to cover this.

Does anyone know if Streetlite 63352 is still at Potteries? I last saw it in the summer at the depot with sister 63354 when they transferred over from Rochdale, but not since.
Also, is 37430 staying or is it going back to Rochdale now its been repainted? I know they did similar with ex badgerline Streetdecks 35666/77/78/79, operating them for a week or so while here for repaint, before sending them on to South Yorkshire.

Could someone tell me what the situation with the roadworks outside Stoke Railway Station is now please?
Are buses passing by the station frontage once again or, if I get a bus down from Hanley centre, do I still need to get off at the end of the road?

Some people might feel a professional operator should provide capacity for their existing and potential customers, rather than expecting a handout.

University funds provision of extra bus services to campus

Students told us that getting to campus by bus in a morning was difficult, with not enough services and standing room only.

As a result, we have provided additional funding of £15,000 – and in collaboration with the Students’ Union - two extra buses will now run to Keele every morning to help commuter students get to campus more easily. Leaving Newcastle-under-Lyme bus station at 7.36am and 8.20am Monday-Friday, both buses will follow the usual 25 route from the bus station to the University.

The additional services follow a collaboration between the University and Students’ Union, after student feedback highlighted a need for improved bus provision to campus.
The Keele SU Officer Team have been campaigning for improvements to buses throughout the year. Keele SU Wellbeing Officer, Zoe Garnett said: “This is a great outcome driven directly by student feedback. Students raised real concerns about morning travel, and we’re pleased to have worked with the University to secure extra buses that better support students getting to campus on time.”

The additional buses will run until Thursday 2nd April 2026. Please note that Stoke-on-Trent, Royal Stoke University Hospital, and Hanley will not be included in these routes.
