First of £36billion windfall already allocated

The first money of the £36billion saved by cancelling the northern part of HS2 has been allocated to a transport project in East Yorkshire. I was expecting junction remodelling, resignalling or even electrification from Hull to Selby, but no. A large proportion has gone towards an £87M road widening scheme on the A164 between Beverley and Hull starting in 2025.
It hasn't been long enough to gain a BCR or planning consent yet. I wish decisions on railway schemes, especially railway reinstatements, were taken this quickly.
This is nearly three times the funding needed to reinstate the short spur to Pool in Wharfedale currently being dismissed by the "experts" in Speculative Ideas.

This scheme has gone through all the normal processes - the documents including business case can be found here.

It's nothing but political spin to claim it is being funded out of the funds from HS2 being cancelled

I thought the first announced project was the extension of Metrolink to Manchester Airport?
