I have just joined the forum as I have got through the online application and test for the trainee drivers pool for Bletchley and awaiting a date for my first interview. It is through West Midlands Trains Recruitment for Abellio and hoped that someone could help with the sort of questions I am likely to get and what I need to be looking at to prepare?

This is the first time they have introduced a video interview at this stage so nobody really knows what you will be asked. But at a guess it will be similar questions to the stuff in the DMI, although I imagine this will only be with HR as I can’t see the DM’s having enough time on there hands to do so many video interviews at such an early stage. Have a good look round the forum and use the search facility, is full of great info from people that have gone through the process.

I've just done a DMI on MS Teams. It was with the DM's. My interview was a structured interview. In other words, very similar to the MMI stage 2 interview and a lot more relaxed.
I had a total of 10 questions. "Give an example of a time that you..." etc. Just like the MMI.
To be fair, the first 20 mins was chit chat, "Tells us a little about you", "Tell us what you know about the company", "Tell us about your car", "Tell us about your journey". Please, think about that.

An hour with the 10 structured questions, then a little about the role within said company, questions about the training, length of the course etc. Ending an hour and a half later with "Anything you'd like to ask us?"

To summarise, two really nice people, putting you at ease asking ten questions expecting a structured answer. They don't tell you what questions you are going to get because I suppose it adds a little pressure to the situation with you having to think on your feet. Don't worry when they say "Can you give another example?" It happens. Have another example ready.

Don't over prepare if that makes any sense.

Sounds absolutely identical to my experience recently.

I put a huge amount of prep in and it paid off. My prep probably went beyond what was expected and I brought all I'd researched about the company and the industry into the interview. I think it's massively important to let your true personality shine in the DMI and that will come naturally if you've done your homework on the competency stuff.

100% agree with this post my DMI was very relaxed, lots of questions but I felt they were basically checking to see if you had the right attitude to work with them, I left my DMI feeling really happy with how it went and was rewarded with a job.
It's super important to research the company you are going for the more information the better I feel.
