First Hull Trains First Class

Hi, been browsing these forums for a while now and have finally decided to register!

Travelling to Hull this weekend with Hull Trains from Kings Cross on a First Class ticket. What can I expect from First Class? I understand there's some kind of meal, although I cannot find a menu anywhere on the net.

Also, I cannot find seating plans anywhere. I requested window and forward-facing seats, although the website seem to give me the same seats regardless of the preferences I selected. Seat 10B outbound and 11B on the return (both coach B).

Hopefully it's better than EMT First Class where all I got was some rancid tasting tea and a moody buffet cart attendant.

What you will get food wise will depend on the time of day, but I wouldn't expect much 180s don't have particularly good catering facilities. Otherwise tea, coffee and a some sort of biscuit is pretty much what you will be getting. Personally I wouldn't bother with HT first class unless its going to be a busy service.

Got a 16-25 railcard - on the way there First was £1 cheaper than standard, and on the return it only ~£4 more, so anything is a bonus really :P Both trains are around lunch time.

Well in that case you might as well Always worth having a look at first advances as more than once I've found the first class fare to be cheaper than the standard!

Well last time I was on board a lunchtime train they served 'finger' sandwiches (4 sandwiches the width and length of a finger with different fillings) garnished with crisps (their words not mine!) followed by cake. Cake was nice, sandwiches not particularly filling however.

Last time I used them was rubbish. One round of tea and coffee leaving Kings Cross, a fairly unremarkable ciabatta, and that was it - no sign of anyone again till they cleaned up after leaving Doncaster.

I've used both Grand Central, WSMR and Hull Trains in First Class so they all have great train crews for their hospitality.

I would agree with ajax, I've used Grand Central and Hull Trains first class and on both the hospitality was great, just what was on offer beyond tea and a biscuit was rubbish.

Apart from WSMR and VT, First Class seems to be just free tea and coffee (and a biscuit) now though.

Well yes I'm sure it was, perhaps I should have said lunch didn't cost any extra.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll stock up on food before hand, so anything I may get on board will be a bonus.

Anyone have any ideas on the seats I have?

and was offered a choice of Full English or Vegetarian!

The vegetarian comprised omelette, tomatoes hash browns with a choice of bread toast marmalade.

Excellent service - totally impressed.
