HI I have applied for the Graduate scheme (See above) - and quick question about the medical - Would my colour-blindness effect my chances getting a position?

don't want to waste anyones time if I get to the medical and they say no - sorry can't do it..

Speak to FGW - don't just give up based on what you're told on here. I know colour blind people who work in the industry, so it's not an absolute guarantee that they'll turn you down - and it will depend on tests undertaken at the medical to determine how much it will affect you.

Way , way back - in BR days - a management trainee was found to be colour blind (then the medical was done after the start date !) - he could have been let go - but they merely marked him down as unable to go on the track alone. This did not really help his career - so he left after 3 years of office work.

I think it is a pretty basic requirement in this day and age.

I never have had a problem seeing the signals etc but always struggle on the standard colour tests.

If the medical was first then I would go for it - with the thought oh well.. but as it's the end of the process - It's a lot of emotional stress to them be told no, sorry.

If my memory serves correctly (it doesn't always!) then colour blind people can go on track/have PTS provided they are with someone all the time. There would be some sort of endorsement to that effect.
