Does anyone know the sort of timescales between the hiring of trainees. I know there's a block of folk just going through interviews and assessments at the mo. Do they have a set number of trainees per year? Is there likely to be any more trainees this year ?
Thanks for any help and the very best of luck to those at interview/assessment stage!

Think they take on roughly 72 trainees per year, twice a year at 36 per time split between Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley(well that's what this intake is), not entirely sure if there's any more this year, best bet may be to phone up or email and ask!

What's the condition? That you pass the medical? That's good news, I've got my final DM interview tomorrow morning, although I think I'm fully prepped you got any tips??

Yeah just the medical mate, I had the dm interview a few weeks ago now then had the computer tests and multi modal interview as the final part of the process last week! The only tip I can give is just prepare as best as you can mate, get your research done and that's half the battle, the rest is about you as a person so just relax and sell yourself as best as you can! Don't panic or worry about it mate cos that's when you'll hesitate with answers and go off on tangents! Good luck bro, hope it all goes well

Yeah mate, had the dm interview a few weeks ago then got a letter to say I had made it through to the second stage which was the situational judgement test, computerised vigilance and perception test and multi modal interview

That's weird man, I had to sit assessment centre part 1 and 2 before I got invited to attend the final DM Interview! All down to this interview tomorrow and if I pass that then I'm presuming itl be a medical invite, not counting my chickens yet though cos many people have fallen at the last hurdle many times and this is only my first attempt

I wouldn't hold my breathe for more trainee jobs to be advertised (at least) externally for quite some time now. These trainee jobs at the moment were advertised in March 2014, Ive been signed up to jobs alerts etc etc and in the last 18 months there have only been trainee vacancies pop up for Aberdeen, Perth, Waverley & Tweedbank. Unless Scotrail have a 'talent pool' on banked candidates then jobs are not as frequent as a few folk have suggested plus this current intake is a considerable amount more than usual. If you look on the forum I think someone said that because the Scotrail franchise is up for renewal next year then if First don't have more than enough drivers on the books when its time to be passed over then there will be severe financial penalties.
