Does anybody know what format a FGW online application follows?

I have seen talk on previous First Group threads saying that once you start the online application process you will be asked to complete some online assessments within 48hrs of starting the application. Is this for all First Group vacancies?

I am currently in German and only have my smartphone for interet access. I'd be gutted to start the application process then have it time out before I can complete the assessments as I can't do them on a smartphone.

Lastly, does anyone know what these assessments might consist of? It would be handy to have an idea before starting the 48hr clock ticking and only getting one crack.

I suppose it would only be fair now to give everybody the heads up that there is a 'Yard Team Member' job at Old Oak Common advertised. This seems to be a shunters job.

Bit of a bump, but I've answered my original question and just completed the online application form followed immediately by a basic assessment.

Has anybody done an online application with FirstGroup/FGW who can tell me what happens next?

Do they email/contact you to let you know if your application form was acceptable, or do you have to keep checking back onto the careers website to see if you have 'mail'/notifications/alerts??

After completing the online application and assessments, if successful you will be invited for a telephone interview in the first instance, which lasts about 30 - 45 minutes. This was the process for me. I'm still waiting to find out if my application is going any further or not...

As stated you will be invited for a telephone interview, I knew about this by email but also kept checking the website for any updates, you will have to book it for a time suited to you. If your successful with said telephone interview you will be invited to attend an assessment centre at your TOCs office, for me it was at atrium court in glasgow! Good luck mate

I have had an email from them telling me I need to complete a further assessment online and only have 36hrs to do it.

Just to give me a bit of warning before I start it, does anybody know what this assessment is likely to be.

The job is 'Yard Team Member' at Old Oak Common FGW HST Yard.

I have already carried out the assessments that came immediately after the initial application.

Thanks in anticipation.

I've done about 10 practice tests over the last 48hrs and only managed to get up to about 61% as my highest I think but I always finished inside the allocated time which was usually 15 questions in 15 mins. I found them quite hard, and the concept quite difficult and felt that even if I'd have had 10 mins per question I'd have still chosen the same answer. When I logged onto the portal this evening I got a practice test of 8 questions with an unlimited time. I got 7 out of 8 correct.

So the real test. It was 30 questions in 17 mins, which was a shock as all the online practice assessments I found were 1 min per question, however I thought the difficulty level of this real test was lower than the practices I completed.*

I went for accuracy rather than speed and didn't watch the clock to start with. When I noticed the clock was on 4 minutes i had about 6 questions remaining and I did loose a bit of concentration. The next 4 questions I rushed a little bit, question 29 was a guess as there was 5 seconds remaining and I ran out of time before I clicked on my guess for the last answer.

What this will mean for the results I'm not sure. Some of the instructions for the practice assessments I did said that un-answered questions resulted in one minus mark, but incorrect attempted questions would just score zero, so I'm annoyed I missed the last question.

No idea when I'll find out what the results were or if I'm through to the next phase.*

This is my first job application after leaving the RAF and I've read that not very many people get the first job they apply for on the railways if they aim high, so I'm looking at this application process as experience for the next one I guess.

I'm aware that if you go forward to these assessment centres then there are other types of tests to be sat and there will be lots of people there who are not doing them for the first time.
