I think people thought they'd mention more about the knock-on effect of the expressway being shut but there wasn't a need IMO. I'd imagine Maryhill Road, Great Western Road and Dumbarton Road will be utterly horrendous so buses like the 2, 3, 6/6A, 60/60A, 61 and 77 will be hit with massive reliability issues during this time. I could also see University Avenue and Woodlands Road being worse too so the 4/4A are likely to be affected.
I honestly think it might be worth curbing the 1 service at Clydebank and then asking passengers to go onto the 6, or continue certain 1 services into the City with the 1D only running Mountblow - Clydebank, with the 1C being suspended as the 6A could pick up some of the slack.

I'm guessing the Clyde Tunnel could be ruled out as a diversionary route for the 1?

Someone asked on my 1 last Saturday and that driver mentioned going via the Clyde Tunnel but I think a lot of drivers will try different things then report back with what turns out to be the best way.

The 1C being suspended would leave a lot of Garscadden with no bus except the 400 so definitely wouldn't go down very well either

Will they be able to stuff all of the 1 services down the M8 Motorway and through the Clyde Tunnel? Assuming thats the route they'd take upon exiting the tunnel.

In peak times it'll be incredibly difficult to manage.

My main concern was peak time too with that. I don't envy anyone trying to plan anything out

There is always the option of sending buses through the tunnel and non-stop along the Fastlink as far as the Squinty Bridge and then via Paisley Rd Toll etc.

A sensible thing to do would be to suspend the roadworks at J17/18 eastwards for the duration and return the motorway to full capacity.

I'm suddenly not as confident that the Clyde Tunnel is a great alternative regarding the 1s and X4. I was out earlier and got a 16 at Anniesland and there was cars all the way backed up from the Clyde Tunnel to Anniesland at one point slowing the bus right down on the way down to Broomhill.

It can usually be busy around lunchtime on Crow Road and people could just be testing alternative routes but unless a lot of people leave their cars at home I doubt things will be anything less than brutal to get anywhere.

Has it been confirmed the 1s will be using the tunnel?

Heard another driver mention it today. Not been confirmed but definitely seems to be the intention to try it at the very least. That's 3 times now I've heard drivers mention it to passengers who've asked what the alternative route would be.

As far as I’m aware the diversion will be decided day to day with on street teams monitoring it and the route may change at short notice. Also if, and it’s a big if, they arrive in the city on time they are permitted to run 10 mins early.

Thanks for the info. Day to day is definitely the way to go regarding routes. I don't envy the decision makers on that front.

Reminds me of the 500 service, which can run via the Clyde Tunnel and Clydeside Expressway.

There’s been a notice on the First website for days now saying that buses are being diverted non-stop through Partick, so not sure where all the speculation about the tunnel is coming from. There’s a big march on the 6th of Nov which will block that diversion, so maybe for one day they’ll use the tunnel. Friends that work in offices in town have said they’re being encouraged to work from home, so it might turn out that the peaks aren’t as bad as feared, but we end up with delays through the day.

Any idea where First have sourced the drivers for the electric bus shuttles?

What is the fare from Glasgow city centre to the Southern Necropolis on the 21 or 267?

Coming up from London on Tuesday, undecided on whether I should just walk. Forecast says light rain which is fine, but will have a somewhat heavy bag

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld

Clyde Fastlink does not work properly as the lights at the end of the segregated bus lanes do not change to give priority to buses.

Also, what on earth is the Squinty Bridge, as I have never heard of it before?

First experience of the diversions today and it wasn't too bad but Sundays are a hard day to judge IMO. My 1A into Glasgow this morning was 15 mins late at Glasgow Central and coming home the 1C got to Scotstoun 5 mins late after leaving 10 mins early from Oswald Street.

What was the diversion on the 1C?

It ran Argyle Street, up onto St Vincent Street, along by the Art Gallery, along Partick and back onto the expressway at Thornwood Roundabout.

There's another diversion later in the week on top of that because of Cairntoul Drive being shut between 9am and 4pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday too. Means it'll go along Alderman Road, down Lincoln Avenue and onto Anniesland Road along by Scotstounhill train station on those days.

All 1s running today via Partick. Including the 1C. Not picking up or setting down though.

It's the best route to take to be honest. I noticed a lot of people sticking their hands out for my buses yesterday because they didn't realise that the buses weren't stopping. It could also be due to the fact it can be easy to make mistake them for a 2 or 3 most days as all 3 services use the same type of bus and some people just see a single digit or what they think is a single digit and not a number and letter. I've started to notice it happening along Yoker/Clydebank way too given that the 6 has a lot of E300s now. Even in the past due to the sun shining in my eyes I've mistakenly stuck my hand out thinking it's a 1 and it's been a 6

Most 1s and X4s are carrying fresh air into and out of town. It would be more useful to make them limited stop at Crow Road, Bures Road and Finedon gorvthe SEC, picking up or setting down. Helping to take the heat off the 2. They invariably take 2 times from the city to Scotstoun.

I came back on a 1D with 3 passengers.yeobofvthrj and the driver hit off at Scotstoun.

Either that or admit defeat and put passengers on to the 2 or 3 at Scotstoun and turn back at Thornwood. In these climate saving days it's just a waste of diesel and the planet.

I'm surprised they never curtailed all of the 1s at Scotstoun or Clydebank to be quite honest but I think passenger numbers are so unpredictable for the 1s that it plays a part in why it didn't happen. You get some 1s that are very quiet but then all of a sudden some end up incredibly busy at random times. Even with the X4 on Saturday that's normally still fairly quiet at 1-2pm I seen one that had most seats taken and the 1s have been similar. They don't seem to follow a regular pattern of when they will be very busy or quiet plus it seems to change day to day.

Been my most used services since they became a thing and there's never been a clear predictable pattern for passenger numbers.

Of course another option would be to avoid Partick entirely, with its traffic. Turn up to Knighswood on the 6 route to Lincoln Avenue. Then follow thex4 route to Byres Road. Turn down there to Church street and the 2 route to the Charing x junction and the city.

My trip on the 1D from town caught up with a 2 which had left 5 minutes in front at Scotstoun. So Partick really best avoided. Normal traffic there is bad enough without the extra traffic.

Anything that involves Byres Road would be even worse to be honest. Known plenty of drivers on the 8 and 90 to say it's taken them 25-30 mins just to get up there.

However you would onky be following a few yards of Byres Road to Church Street. Far from the whole of it which is dire.

The traffic lights at the bottom of Byres Road don't stay green for long enough to avoid major issues though.
