Thanks for that info @Volvodart as i was visiting Aberdeen yesterday and seen 34375 and 34385 and thinking i cant leave Glasgow without something that reminds me of Glasgow and speaking of Hydrogen, i did use one of the Hydrogen buses on the 20 and was fair to say they could shift.. I also made it a case to travel on some of our native at the time E500's on the 1 and 2 as well as a first for me anyway using First Citaro O530G on the 2 and getting off at the back door

so all in all quite an interesting mix although i will say that i was very surprised to see the bendys as i had thought they had done away with them.
the bendys are nice, more from york are supposed to be coming when they get new deliveries of more EV's, the native E500's from Glasgow are very nice, but needing a retrim with seats starting to show their age, same as the Bendy buses.

The E500s needed a refurb when they left Glasgow so I can only imagine what they’re like now. They are good solid buses. There was talk of them and the Citaros getting a refurb but it’s been put back a few times.

38223 is supposed to be getting a seating retrim when it goes into Grampian livery.

The facebook guessing game has it narrowed down to Hampshire/Dorset/Berkshire.

13 are going apparently, who would need that many?

Could be a case of going to Hampshire and Dorest to displace B9s for somewhere like Kernow? seems the most logical theory for me

The reason for them being transferred is currently a secret

My guess is they are going to Bristol. They would fit in nicely with the gas buses they have. Somerset is set to go Euro 6 by the end of the year and all Bristol buses are Euro 6.Still plenty of 54 reg B7's left in Cornwall that you sent us in 2020 so every thing moves west. The 54's may finish up going over the edge at Lands End.

Confirmed to be within Hampshire/Dorset/Berkshire, which Bristol doesn't come under

Don’t trust Bustimes I hear some say!
Volvodart has quoted thirteen going. According to Bustimes 34375-87 (=13) haven’t been in use in Glasgow since January in some cases or early February for others.

So could that be the thirteen?

If its a secret, maybe its Weymouth launching an expansion of the Jurrasic Coaster routes? I really can't imagine Solent or Berkshire need them unless the coaches are going from Railair?

So they actually use the middle doors to alight people?

speaking of the doors, thats what i did on the first bendy I was on, I walked from the back to the front doors as that had always been the way of it in Glasgow with the bendys, the only reason i did it on the way back is because someone else was getting off at the back as well and i had seen a few people getting let off the back for a few stops prior as well, so as i say a bit of novelty.

From my experiences so far today, it's actually shocking in both a good and bad way how much cleaner the buses are with not printing tickets for concessions and under 22s. It's great that it's made a good difference immediately but it also shows how bad for littering people were. I've used 4 buses so far today and they were all very clean with almost nothing on the floor of each bus.

On another note, I had seen a comment on a First Glasgow post on Facebook (can't find it now) from someone starting with First who said that they can't start training until May due to the volume of people waiting for their training and due to licences being processed so slowly.

I take 2 things from comments like that; it's a very good thing that First clearly have a lot of people in training but it's also very reflective of the issues around licensing and just how many new drivers are waiting for theirs.

Was walking by Caledonia Depot this afternoon when I noticed an Enviro200 EV without the green "electric" branding at the top, I couldn't see what fleet number it was but that might've been one of the new Enviro200 EV's we are expecting (64153-57).

This is all irrelevant if said drivers don’t remain at First Glasgow after training, irregardless of the time taken to complete that training.

I definitely agree with that. The fact they're managing to get a decent number in though is slightly promising. A lot of the drivers I've had lately have certainly been a lot more pleasant too so I do wonder if something has changed.

Aside from the purple polo shirts they're handing to drivers? Nothing in my view.

What I’ve experienced from both working for First Bus at several of their depots, including Caledonia for 6 years on and off, not a thing changes for the better. Your expectations are usually pretty stable when you begin the job but usually after the honeymoon period it soon becomes clear that other issues eat away at your ability to sustain your job in a positive mind set, even if it’s issues like the heating in electric buses being poor in freezing winters or lack of chill unit in drivers cabs for blistering days in the summer. Another big sticking point is dealing with ever increasing road traffic and congestion and working fairly consistent 12hr shifts.

I have been traveling on buses a lot recently. Reliability, to be honest, has been better than I thought it’d be and some of their buses I feel are so poorly specified though or ill equipped for the job at hand.

I was traveling on an 89 yesterday which had an electric decker on it, stuck at 42mph on 50mph zones, 8mph may not make a great difference tbh, but from behind the wheel I know it’s gets grating after period of time especially if it were to be on an x8 or x85 for example.

The E400EVs are probably the first buses that I've wanted to avoid when they're new since I've used buses. I got an 89A yesterday and the doors kept sticking. The driver had to use a fair amount of force to get them to open properly. The problem seemed to fix itself after that but having to do that with a 22 plate bus isn't good.

As for roadworks, Partick and Maryhill in particular seem absolutely dreadful at the moment. The ones at St George's Cross also still have just over a year to go too which is why I'm surprised that First haven't diverted the 60/60A/61 down Napiershall Street onto Great Western Road, yet considering that West Coast Motors did it with their 17. The traffic lights on the diversion barely stay green for any time at all either, so it really doesn't help.

I’m wondering how the 2 will cope with a reduction in capacity when the new E200EVs arrive at Scotstoun. The route has been run predominantly by E400MMCs, E400s and B9TLs for the last few years.

I wonder if the plan will be to split the E200EVs between Scotstoun services X4, 16, 77 as well as the 2 and 3 services. I wonder whether the 2 and 3 will still see a mixture of deckers and diesels like has been done for Caley routes or if they’ll convert the full routes to electric like they did with the E300s.

The only way it'll cope is if it gets back to pre-covid frequency of every 8 minutes again. In the morning, a lot of the double deckers get close to full as it is too. With the exception of the M11 due to the bridge at the bottom of Kilbowie Road, anything double decker wise can end up on anything. Last week, an E400 ended up on the M60 and the 81 sometimes gets them too.

Buses in Glasgow could be forced off the road due to strike action, say union

UPCOMING strike action could force buses off the road in Glasgow, a union has revealed.
Unite has confirmed that Bidvest Noonan workers contracted to clean and refuel buses for First Bus are set to strike in a dispute over pay.
More than 100 cleaners, fuellers and shunters contracted to work in First Glasgow and First Aberdeen bus depots will be striking, after previously rejecting a two per cent pay offer backdated to 2022.

It is claimed that wages at the company start at £9.62 per hour. From April, £10.42 per hour will be the national minimum wage.
Meanwhile, Unite revealed that Bidvest Noonan made a profit of £9.5m for the year ending June 2022, up from £5.96m in year ending June 2021.
According to the union, with cleaning, refuelling, and re-charging of the electric buses not carried out on the days of industrial action, buses may have to be taken off the roads for safety and re-charging reasons.

Sharon Graham, Unite general secretary, said: “Bidvest Noonan’s pay offer is totally unacceptable. This company is making millions and can well afford to pay fairly. It has no excuse for not doing so.
“Quite simply, these buses couldn’t operate without our members who have Unite’s full support as they stand up for better jobs, pay and conditions.”
The strike action will take place at the Glasgow and Aberdeen depots from 3pm on Wednesday, March 1, concluding at 6am on Saturday, March 4.
Bus depots to be impacted by strike action include Glasgow Road, Blantyre, Cathcart Road, Glasgow, South Street, Glasgow, Birch Meadow, Dumbarton, Castlehill Road, Wishaw, and King Street, Aberdeen.

The Bidvest Noonan contract workers were outsourced by First Bus in Glasgow in 2016, and then December 2020 in Aberdeen.
Wendy Dunsmore, Unite industrial officer, said: “The strike action by Unite members working for Bidvest Noonan will lead to First Bus having to take buses off the roads in Aberdeen and Glasgow.
“The two per cent offer backdated to last year is totally unacceptable to our members. This dispute is a problem of First Bus’s own making because they outsourced these workers years ago. Unite is demanding that they be brought back in-house and paid fairly.”
A spokesperson for First Bus Scotland said: "We understand Bidvest Noonan workers have been balloted in relation to strike action.
“First Bus is assisting Bidvest Noonan to find an agreement that is mutually beneficial to all.”
Bidvest Noonan has been contacted for comment.

It's definitely not an ideal situation by any means. At least this headline doesn't make it look like it's First's own workers striking, though unlike the STV News one which is headlined "Strikes by First Bus depot workers to "force services off roads."

I've never really been for outsourcing, as it leaves you open to issues like this with pay disputes involving the subcontracted companies, whereas if they're your own staff, you're far more in control of the situation.

I can't agree with you on this. I'd go as far as to say I generally like them, though granted I've not encountered any difficulty so far.

The Maryhill stuff is fibre broadband rollout - it's been working its way up from Queen's Cross over the last little while, but it's extra rough at the moment because there are temporary controls between Shawpark and Shakespeare Streets that are gumming up not only the normal flow but also the flow into and out of Ruchill Street. Should be over pretty soon, at least, although I'm not sure how much further down Maryhill Rd they'll be working.

The "ones at St George's Cross" description is a bit obtuse, haha; they're the repairs to the Woodside viaducts. I'm torn on the idea of diverting it down Napiershall Street though - personally I prefer that route, and used to take the X10 that way before FSE was sold, but it would mean skipping several fairly busy stops on the bypassed section of Maryhill Road unless a temporary exemption was made to allow the use of Cromwell Street or Burnbank Terrace instead of Napiershall Street. Yet I also agree that the current arrangements are not the best; the turn from St George's Road into Garscube Road on the inbound can indeed take an age because the light timings are very poor, and the outbound gets caught in the simply hideous traffic in the afternoon peak turning into Phoenix Road at Cowcaddens.

It's definitely not an ideal situation by any means. At least this headline doesn't make it look like it's First's own workers striking, though unlike the STV News one which is headlined "Strikes by First Bus depot workers to "force services off roads."
To be honest I hadn't imagined that they would even outsource that sort of work.

Companies outsource so that any disputes don't spread throughout the company. You can then threaten the "source" company with terminations of any contracts you have with them. Pretty crap way of running a business as far as I'm concerned. Treat your employees fairly and they won't feel the need to go on strike.

I fully agree with that to be fair. It's a horrible way to go about things. As much as a lot of people have negative opinions towards First, they were quick to act as soon as the threat of drivers striking became public knowledge and it resulted in drivers, especially on the low end getting one of the best deals anyone has had in the last couple of years. It would cost First more if they done everything in-house but the staff would be better paid with them compared to Bidvest Noonan.

It doesn't necessarily follow that doing it in house is more expensive when you factor in the profit margin that Bidvest Noonan will be applying. Often these things are done for reasons other than cost reduction.

Nothing personal but I'll not add any further comments so that the thread doesn't get dragged into an employment debate - at least not on my behalf :D:D

Does anyone know if there are any other service changes in the works after the Lanarkshire ones this weekend or will we have an unchanged network until at least the summer?

Having only ever driven the 200EV at First Glasgow I’ve no idea about being a passenger.

The 400EV picture below shows a shocking passenger seat arrangement downstairs. This is the first I’ve ever been a passenger on one. All but 4 seats are on raised plinths and it feels notably cramped compared to the diesel equivalent. At 10.9m the 400EV is not what I expected when coming from ADL. Possibly this was another oversight to get their BYD powered product on the market.
