Sorry if this is a little off topic but what exactly is the point in the 709/765 I would understand them being worker services but they don’t do a return journey

Dead runs that are registered as passenger services so first can claim fuel reimbursements?

Workers services, the 709 has been running for quite some time and I am sure has always been one way. I have seen the 709 on a few occasions and it was surprisingly busy!

Looking at some old timetables the 709/765 were indeed always one way. Does their employment involve never returning home?

Personally especially the 709 could run every hour as it would give Drumchapel a link to the hospital again along with a bus to Braehead

The 60 is actully quite well used across city its a good bus for those with family in the eastend amd living in maryhull etc and its alway packed plus from a cost side of it its one single rather than 2 and no changing services

I have used the 60 a few times you are right on that one, I maybe wrong to say but it does pick up quite a bit at The Forge (I know depends in direction it’ll vary).

Am I right to say it’s the 60A that terminates in the City Centre but it comes from one direction to restart again to head out?, I have seen it parked up at a bus stop in George Square.

The problem is doing that ruins cross-city runs. Means double the fare if you want to go from say Hampden to Kelvinbridge etc.

If it works for a city then if it ain’t broke... was only suggesting even I remember here in Dundee it was tried Stagecoach Strathtay 13 Xplore Dundee 14 eventually dropped. In Dundee (read above in terms of Outer Circle) it’s now 9/10 only but they change part of the route every now and again

Would be interesting to see how well used that would be. The fact it's routed with the 3 til Alderman Road and then goes down with the 1C at least puts it in line with potential passengers. Would also save people swapping at Thornwood on and off of 77s just to go to Braehead if they ever put it into there too

Exactly I think as a trial it would be worth a try

The solution to that is a fare structure that doesn't punish passengers for making connecting journeys.

Not surprised First don't have many express buses because that'll add up pretty quickly from Buchanan Bus Station

Only the X3, X8, X11, X85 and X87 now in there plus none of them are particularly frequent. Extra peaks on 4 of the 5 but then the X3 is the most frequent off peak every 20 mins

Plus the 9, 9A, 230, 255, 263 and 267 all run from Buchanan and pay the fees. 28 journeys an hour between them before covid...

Yeah it would all add up pretty quickly. Surprised some of them haven't moved out of Buchanan Bus Station tbh

The reason for the longer suburban routes terminating in BBS is because there's nowhere else for them to go.

Yeah that's true to be fair. Most streets in the city centre are a terminus off of the main ones. Holland St, Douglas St etc

Still very minimal to be fair though. The 1s are the only frequent expresses and even at that it's because of the fact there's multiple variations. Individually they're not that frequent

They should have never closed down Anderson. There is a bit of waste ground on Renfield street next to tesco bank, that should have been used for bus stance for all local routes.

You mean Anderston?

Whilst it was before my first trip to Glasgow, my understanding is that it was a hellhole of the highest order. It's also in the wrong place, hence why the whole place closed. You can make the argument that it's not as bad as it once was but even in 2013, as I returned in a suitably refreshed state back to the Marriott, I was approached by an entrepreneurial lady; I assumed she was a member of the Chamber of Trade as she enquired if I was interested in "business".

Perhaps if on-street parking was reduced, there might be sufficient locations to enable certain services to terminate but a highly valuable bit of Glasgow real estate isn't going to be a bus terminus.

If we had a council that was actually invested in helping bus priority we would maybe have a chance of a 2nd bus station in Glasgow city centre but currently there's probably more chance of me being on the moon tomorrow than that and there's no chance of me being on the moon anytime

Bus priority is what is needed and if GCC did that then you could have sufficient stops and roadside layover. Another bus station isn't needed. Birmingham manages without ANY central bus station (though could perhaps do with one for longer distance routes such as Tamworth, Worcester) and has virtually no cross city services.

Always though King St car park could become a bus station. I seen plans for flats on it though. Im surprised the 9 goes into the bus station, i think it does purely for driver change overs. Blantyre operated 21 and 18, FG 2 with 267 etc.

Yeah it's hard to see where a bus station could go really. Every building plan seems to be flats or hotels and bars immediately. The thing with the King St car park plans is that it'll make it interesting for Osborne Street. Plenty of buses stop there currently

Reminds me of that Clydebank to the Hospital service from a few years back.

Fare system dosent bother me lol as I just buy a child all day and I'm on my way

All day for me as two singles is more expensive than the all day. Only time i buy a single is of im either going home from coming from down south etc or going to town to go down south .

True, but the problem is reliability. Take the 3 - it's 1 bus from Shawlands to West End. Make that 2 buses fares, journey time and reliability becomes an issue.

One of the reason London has routes with overlapping sections rather than just terminating them at a common point

Transfer tickets could be used, they have that abroad and London.

Paisley is a moderately sized place, both with good custom on the bus and train... but does it really warrant that many services up to Glasgow?

38 every 5 minutes
9 every 12 minutes
17 every 30 minutes
26 every 15 minutes

Would it be worth First pulling out of Paisley as their route 9 isn't all that busy

I think its the areas in between that counts Govan, Braehead etc. I usually get the train to Paisley.

Govan for the 3 and 34 and 90 can actually be pretty busy from what I've experienced, not used the 49 there and obviously Cardonald, Ibrox and Cessnock are great bus territory even with so many buses. Been on plenty of fairly busy buses even off peak

I think its down to density and demographic. I notice the 6 is quiet and quick after battlefield heading to East Kilbride.

Yeah definitely plays a part. Yeah even when I've used the 6 to go to my friend's house over the last few years at peak times it's far quieter into East Kilbride than the 18 and 21 were when I used them.

Yeah 18 does get quite a few going to EK, The 6 picked up around Westwood, a few took it to Langside college to.
