I believe we both are johncleesefan. Starting on the 25th bank holiday but i don't think they count in the railway game lol. Glad you're enjoying it is it living up to expectations

Bank holiday what? Haha. Yeah its going well. It's a good structures course. 3 weeks in class getting an overview of the railway world then front end riding where it clicks into place. Then back to the class to get fully submersed into the different modules. Its a laugh too as you'll soon make friends with the others.

Lol I started on a bank hol. It's not too bad, usually a very short day. Collect stuff (ID, car park passes, uniform)
Tour of the mess room/booking on points and a prep talk from your line manager.
Your training for Bristol will mostly be SPM, however some of it can be done in Swindon.
The assessments and the long wait was just the start. The tough bit is learning the rules. Not difficult, but a lot to take in with around 2-3 assessments a week with a high pass requirement. You learn to appreciate why they are interested in if you have done a training course in the past.
I'm on the same course as Trainer74. Loving the course (even though it's a lot to take in) trainers are superb, got an awesome bunch of guys on my course
For those in the wait, hang in there. I'm sure you will hear something soon. From sounds of things the recruitment is far from over.

Have you started yet?
I so then speak to a trainer or Manager.
If not then you wont get them in the post, you get a temporary one on your first day, the letter giving you your starting instructions should act as your pass to get to work, it should say so on it.

That is one of the most important sentiments said on here. You have to have a laugh, and you have to get on with all your fellow railwaymen and become a railwayman. Never, ever go round with a "driver's" attitude and your head up your own backside. One good cock up and you'll be pushing a broom around with MITIE, what price for not treating them as fellow railwaymen then ?

I started this process with FGW in September 2013, hope to hear something positive soon, as DB Shenker have just sent me the "no more 2015 recruitment" email and Freightliner HH have never been in touch since late last year. Think I'm just down to this company now... everything crossed!

DB-S are rumoured to be making drivers redundant due to the downturn in coal traffic and the lose of various contracts nationwide, so there will be a flood of freight men looking for passenger work....and FGW are looking for qualified drivers at all their depots.

It doesn't look good.

I doubt they extended to the 5 year rule.

This is a copy and paste from an email I received a while back.

"Your assessment is valid for 36 months from the date of the first test with all Firstgroup train Operating Companies.

It must be valid on the first day of the training course."

I have given up on my application now to be honest.

I hope those that are waiting do hear something conclusive soon, as I know it is horrible waiting for that phone to ring and putting all plans such as holidays etc on hold.
