I sat my stage 1 assessment in Bristol on the 12th at 12-3pm and have just received an email to say I was successful, and that stage 2 will be arranged when the dates have been sorted.

johncleese your delay might be due to them sending the rejections first....you might be lucky.....

I also think we need to check out exactly which part we failed on...particularly if the proposed changes DON'T go ahead and we now have one life left....I remember reading some guys managed to find out so worth having a sniff around...

At the Stage 1 process, the OPC invigilator stated that FGW would get back with whether you passed or failed. He then said if you wanted further feedback that you should get in touch with OPC who would be able to tell you, as they were marking the tests and have the info on their databases.

OPC's telephone number is 01923 234 646

YAY! Just received the email stating I passed Stage 1 as well.

I sat the assessment on Tuesday 10th Sept (12-3)

Congratulations to all that passed!

Go - it will undoubtedly take longer than that for FGW to finish marking, finish emailing and then arrange stage 2, email for candidates to book slots and for those slots to actually come around.

Just make sure you check your email while you are away every now and then - just in case!

Have a good break!

Hi goldsky, I applied for Paddington. Heard nothing from the closing date in May until the 30th August. I passed the online assessment then heard nothing for 3&1/2 weeks to say that I'd been invited for the telephone interview. I did that the 24th sept. Heard yesterday that I'd passed that and that I would hear in due course about the 1st assessment day. All in all 5 months so far! That's all I can say guys just be patient :). We'll done to all those who have passed stage 1 of the assessments and the other stages. Just don't give up the dream :)))))

Ah thats a shame, how come?

Well, if i had failed then i would have to wait 6 months to retake the test. But i didn't know the result so i rang DBS and explained the situation, their stage 2 is on the 08 Oct so i am going to give it a miss this time.

Ah of course. The 6 month wait between tests. My fault as im tired and browsing. Would I be right in assuming if I applied for another position with this pass, I could either get skipped passed that process with anothrr toc, or re sit it with them because I have passed already. I dont have to wait 6 months? Just wondring

Well I'm a happy bunny as I got my results saying I passed the stage 1 tests. Now just a waiting game for stage 2 to come around.

Congrats to everyone else who passed and commiserations to everyone who wasn't successful this time around, just try again when the opportunity presents itself again.

I've been invited to the first assessment, logged onto the site to book but no dates come up, has this happened to others?

I'm assuming you are on the new "FGW Train Drivers" website that rolled out after the previous muck-up in Bristol? Yeah, this is happening to me too. I got invited to assessment this morning for London Paddington reserve places, but no dates showing for me either! Oh well, I'll wait. So excited!

Got my email from FGW about the recent Bristol Assessment:

ith regard to your results, you passed the elements of the assessment that you attempted. However, as you achieved a "borderline pass" in some of the criteria, and as First Great Western are committed to safety and progressing the strongest performing candidates first, we will not be progressing your application further at this stage.

Should we find that we require further candidates in the future, we may contact you if you are happy for us to do so.

So - that's annoying. I've emailed to ask how I get specific feedback.

What to do? Do I try another TOC, or hang about in case FGW want me after all, or do I get my eyes tested (sure it was the dots that did it - hurt my eyes!)

Any assistance gratefully received!

Apply for other TOCs. Tell them you passed stage 1 with a borderline and some of them will put you through to stage 2, some will ask you to sit stage 1 again. Whatever you do DO NOT just sit about waiting to be called forward, the waiting game is bad enough!

Under the new system apparently there are only two types of result - "Pass" and "Fail". This should be fairer in the future.

Just don't forget that a borderline is a pass.

re: 1st assessment -

anyone that's been through it before and is booked in for the next assessments in Reading, are the practice materials they have emailed out the same as in the past, or are these practice materials suited to the new style tests?

just thought I would ask as the booklet is FGW on the cover but has mechanical test questions and I thought FGW didn't test on this under the old assessment system?

your thoughts much appreciated, as I am not sure whether we will be tested under the new system that was meant to be operative from oct 1st.

cheers

I believe that any new testing after October 1st would be the new style test, although I may be wrong......

From what I read on the RSSB leaflet concerning psychometric testing is that full compliance for all TOCs must be by 29/10/2013.

If a candidate has sat GB, TRP1 & 2 and passed but not sat DTG & CBI by that date then they shall sit the new assessments, but not be required to resit the GB/TRP part of the assessment.

Thanks Welshjpc - that's what I figured.
I also applied for Train Manager (inspired by 'The Railway') and they've sent me practice materials, so I shall apply myself :)

Have booked in with Optician as seriously, my eyes haven't been the same since the GBT - I think it strained them!

:)
