TPA, settle down, it takes many many brush strokes to paint a picture, that was just my very small contribution. Remember there are a lot of applicants, of which a TINY minority will be members on here. Any information is good information!
The rest of your post I understand. But you can't plan your future until you have a job offer. Until then, the assumption must be 'life as usual'. We're all adults and we should all know by now how companies work, especially at the early stages when your application is in the hands of some HR department.
I'll be honest, I won't begin to feel the tenterhooks until (IF I make it) to the manager's interview. Right now there's so many people and so many variables, it seems unnecessary to fret over it too much.
P.s. I should have said, what I typed was my opinion only. I wasn't wishing to appear to dictate to others.

I was given a DM interview two days after this so I'm presuming its not a factor. There is a lot planned for the great western line in the future with IEP and electrification, hoping that has more to do with the need for drivers.
Does anybody know if for instance me and the others who haven't heard back yet where to suddenly get a email saying we have passed stage 1 and are on hold, could we then apply for another TOC if an opportunity came up while on hold or would we have to wait 6 months, and I presume that the other TOC would then check the results for quality of the pass

I also did my stage 1 back in October 15th in Newport, then didn't hear anything until being asked to take my stage 2 on 22nd March in Newport, only to be told that things will progress much faster now and that I should hear within a week or two! Like you my current status still shows 'Invited to assessment and interview' I was told on the day that I had passed the reaction test etc. But I still haven't heard if I have passed the criteria based Interview!!!
I'm beginning to think that I will never get this job! shame really as it's the first Job I've ever applied for that I felt really passionate about getting!!!!
Hang in there; we might get there yet!!! Wayne.....

I've just had the email too.
I've just called them and asked if I've got any chance of sitting the CBI.
I don't need to sit part 2 of the assessments as I've already done them with another TOC, and with good pass results as well.
Will have to see what happens

I've just received a call from FGW and they've apologised profusely as it's out of their hands.
I still have to attend the CBI and if they get dates after 6 months they will call me to arrange an interview date, etc
Never mind, another waiting process

6 months what? I assume they are hoping for qualifieds then. well I can't wait any longer I'm applying for alternative work and keep my application with the toc until I hear anything. will still apply for roles hopefully to secure a job within the rail industry.
Hi mate, did you find out when you took your 1st stage if other people got to stage 2 quicker than you did for that particular postion you applied for? Meaning the one you applied for has been filled and your on hold for a alternative placement, and where did you apply for as well please.
Hi Ayamonte, I originally applied for Bristol and all those that did part 1 in October didn't hear anything until March, this was apparently due to a shortage of training staff! we were told at stage 2 that things were now sorted and that we would hear within a couple of weeks at the most! This hasn't happened and I'm still waiting!

I did mine on the 29th may and have sat stage 2 since then.

Did anyone get any further with Oxford?
that's what I applied for, Not a dickey bird other than 2weeks + ago about the 7-10 day email, Like I say can accept that I might not have got top 10% or whatever it may be but I just wish I knew either way if oxford has gone so be it, I know they are recruiting qualified at the moment or these positions but if we have passed and are waiting for the next round of tests or intakes then let us know!! I can only presume that if we had failed then we would of been notified like the others have I don't think they would let every one know with individual emails I'm sure all the fails are rounded up at the same time and sent one mass generic email? I have work but you cannot help but wonder and letting your imagination run away with you
I attended the first stages of assessment at reading on the 29th of May.. Passed the first lot of assessments and had a phone call on the 4th of June asking if I could attend the 2nd stage on the 11th of June. But due to being away on holiday I had to decline the date, I got told they would be doing another batch of people in the last week of June and they would be in contact, I still haven't heard anything until today. I was sent an email inviting me to do the first stage of assessments on the 5th of July at plenta hotel. So I phoned them up explaining that i had passed my first lot of assessments and asked if any more dates were available for the second stage which the reply I got was sorry for the email and we haven't got any dates yet for stage 2.. My question is why would the company be sitting another lot of first stages at reading when it seems to me that they have enough people that have passed the first stages and our ready to take the second.. These are only my thoughts and opinions.

Well good news you got a call back though!! I don't have a clue how it all works and as I said bear in mind they are recruiting qualified drivers for these areas at the moment as well, haven't a clue why they would be holding first round assessment's again. But as I said previously the only reason I can think of as to why I haven't had a call back yet is because I only answered 25/26 dial questions which is obviously isn't enough where did you apply for by the way
I applied for Reading Station, I guess it's just a case if playing a very long waiting game, as I've seen that there are people still waiting in results from last year..
Ah well chin up mate sure we will get something soon, Ay hope the jolly was worth it though

Hi Hughqq I sat the first stage assessments in the morning session at Reading on 31st May & still not heard back. I know a couple of people who work for another TOC & was forewarned that it isn't a quick process one of them it took 2 years from starting the process to actually starting training.
Thanks for this, perhaps they have enough from the other sessions and not even for round to ours yet.

I sat the tests in Reading on 30th May ( after paying £129 on train tickets to get there), I received an email on the 18th June stating that I should hear results within 7 - 10 days. Today is the 10th working day and they're still on radio silence. I'm not sure I really want to work for an outfit that works like that, so as soon as I get my results (and indeed IF) I think I'll be pulling the rip cord on this little venture.

As much as it is frustrating I'm just going with the viewpoint of no news is good news. I was fortunate to be forewarned of how slow it can be but ultimately as the saying goes you've got to be in it to win it.

Don't shoot me for offering this advice, but ring them? You can hardly blame them for taking this long. Okay, a bit of communication wouldn't go amiss, but that's life.

had that come through on a job alert, picked my ears up as it was from HR and I have an open application much to my demise.
I had exactly the same response Daddy B, only I was working in an area where the 3G coverage was really bad so I got the email header but none of the content. I ended up having to get in my van to go and try and find a signal so you can imagine how disappointed I was when I eventually opened it........So, still awaiting shortlisting but at least I'm still in the game and not been waiting as long as you so not to moan about really!
Can't help looking out of the window today and thinking it would be a great day to be out driving trains..............
