First great western time scales

Hi all

I am completely new here and have had a good look around and the forum is great loads of really useful hints and tips from experience people!!

I applied for the position of trainee train driver with first great western last august and heard nothing back. However i got an email off the lm two days ago saying i had passed the hlsjort listing process and to await further instructions!! Very excited! My question is am i going to wait another 7 months for the next email or does the process speed up from here? If anyone can help that would be great

Hi Jamie and welcome to the forum! As you've probably realised by now, the recruitment process can run at heritage railway speed as opposed to mainline HST speed!

To help us understand a little better, is the message you received from First Great Western? Or is it from London Midland (the way I read LM) for a different role you applied for?

On the bright side it looks as though things are finally moving! Not sure about their timescales, since I've never applied to them. Fingers crossed someone else will be along soon with a better idea, but I'd hope to hear something in the next 2 - 3 weeks...

Only speaking personally, but I class FGW as having the worst recruitment setup I've ever experienced. Read the 'FGW anyone heard back' thread and you'll quickly see why.

I just had my medical today and passed for a drivers position. I applied in August, was 'awaiting shortlisting' til December for stage 1, Stage 2 end of Feb, Managers interview 6 days later, medical 7 days later. Hope that helps. Good luck and don't give up hope. I was told there are many positions available but not many making the grade.

I too have noticed this lack of speed - I applied for a Service Delivery Assistant back in December and I have still not heard back. The online status still says Awaiting Shortlisting - so that is a good thing. So frustrating though!

With ~400 applicants per position it would be a disservice to rush the process, particularly as it's competitive in nature. It would be harsh to inform someone that they had passed the assessment then tell them a few weeks, if not months, later that they hadn't been selected.

Thanks for the replys! Think I just need to be patient and wait it out! Ive downloaded the bourdon tool and will start practising my skills!
