you know the diagram that goes to Taunton? where does the set do the driver turn round, stop lead engine and start engine on the other loco? is it actually done at the platform it comes in on or does it leave Taunton station and stable at a nearby siding until it's time for the return departure?

yes in Taunton its done on Platform, In Cardiff, the set arrives, driver leaves 1st loco, starts rear loco, takes set off to Canton for 10 - 15mins turns off front loco, rear loco leads back into platform 1 or 2 and then back off to Taunton

how many platforms at Taunton? does it come in on one that avoids blocking the main up/down line to Exeter while it waits to depart in the opposite direction?

6 platforms. 2 bays (1 at each end) and 4 through platforms, all bi-directional.

an on, just been told now that the 57's being replaced is a load of bull O.O

I hope so. Its abit early to throw the towel in after just 2 months. Im doing a south west in june planning a couple of days on the loco-hauled diagrams.

Jesus, I've booked the day off at short notice and have flights booked with Ryanair for Friday! Ah well, gearing up for some GM645 bashing anyway, I would love it if 311 makes an appearance.

Ah...Just think of it as being an 071 Class, but with a silencer:)

And by the way, 57301 Left Eastleigh yesterday:(

Scooped 57305 last night on the 1900 Cardiff to Taunton, now finished the 57/3s for haulage! Now to try and get 57001 > 011 and that's the lot finished <D

No, the set goes to Cardiff West Sidings to lay over.

Very few times it is started up in the platform, the driver usually just goes to the back loco cab to dump his bag there. He'll then go to the West, shut down the leading engine then prep the rear loco there (which becomes the leading loco).

Absoloutly, that's why I like these machines, even if they are silenced. Only place in these Islands you'll get a GM645 these days on passengers, can't really count 59s.

Pity about 301 heading Northbound tomorrow with 311, they'd be the ideal pairing on Friday as still need both of them for haulage, hopefully one of them will appear on the Holyhead run on Saturday, 301 could do with a run out on a passenger.

Surprised about 315 also going to Longsight tomorrow, thought it would have lasted all week on the Holyhead-Cardiff, is it knackered?

Had a great day out today, caught the 07.22 HST from Filton Abbey Wood to Newport where I changed to the 08.15 down to Paignton. Had lunch there and caught the 12.13 to Dawlish where I walked along the sea wall and got a few pics, including the return working of the 67s. Walked to Dawlish Warren and caught 13.58 to Exeter St Davids where I changed to the 15.00 to Taunton, before getting the 57s back to Filton!

any reason to go back to Newport instead of catching the Paignton service from FAW or BTM? maybe you are a big fan of the Severn Tunnel!

today I will mostly be at home decorating
Well I reckon it will be the same as 2 weeks ago 67016/017 on the Paigntons (booked to run from Crewe to Brizzle tonight).
67005/006 will go back to Crewe on 0Z70 this afternoon.
2x 57 will work the other diagram, unless there is another path to bring more 67s down to Cardiff to pick up the stock for Taunton?
I have a feeling that somebody saw that 67005 and 006 were working down to Brizzle last week, put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5.

16 & 17 needed exams. I highly doubt there will be any changes in contract w.r.t the second loco hauled set...

My boy and I managed to get some haulage today anyway. He was extra pleased that they were both Virgin 57's (John Tracy + Brains). Think they were running bit late from Taunton as the train usually is at the platform (bound for Canton) when my 12.28 HST from Swansea arrives at Cardiff so big relief when it rolled in. Took the 14.00 departure 57's to Patchway, then just under an hour later took the Paignton 67's back to Newport, got off here to photograph the 57 to Holyhead.

Do you know if it was 57313 that operated the Cardiff-Holyhead? It was mentioned elsewhere that 57314 was failed at Holyhead this morning and that 308 had brought it back to Longsight, while 57313 collected the stock.

I don't suppose anyone would know if the rebuilt Network Rail 97301, (37100) is still down at St. Davids, apparently it was due to leave today...?

Thanks
