First Class Weekend Upgrade Virgin Trains

Hi all,
I am wondering if you could tell me what I get for a Weekend First Upgrade on a train from Manchester to London, I am going down Tomorrow (24/10) at 10.15.
Will i get any food if I upgrade?

Is this the same for Under-16s?

Hi,
All you will get is tea/coffee and some biscuits. You will not get any food as such but for £15 for adults and £5 for children is worth the extra room and quiet in my view.

You also get free wifi access (for which you pay per hour in standard)

Food and drink wise, it's tea, coffee, orange juice, coke, lemonade etc and shortbread biscuits.

You also get a window seat, more legroom and a comfier chair which reclines

While Manchester to London should be ok, I would not generally set the expectation that you will even get tea/coffee and some biscuits.

I've had a number of first class trips with Virgin recently on a Saturday and Sunday where neither have been provided when I've joined the train in Nuneaton (going to either London or Liverpool).

If you go to the shop, they will sometimes serve you a drink there, but, more often than not, you will be reprimanded for not waiting for the trolley and sent back to your seat. Only for the trolley never to appear.

From what I have observed, it seems that the trolley person does one pass of first class in the first quarter of the journey, then hides in Coach K for the rest of the trip. Anyone joining midway does not get served.

I've also had the converse on a Sunday evening northbound service, where the trolley person didn't appear until an hour into the journey, just as we were pulling into Nuneaton. Fat lot of use to me.

I agree with a lot of that. The service can be very hit and miss at weekends. One girl came through about 3 times while some others only do the once around Stoke. On another occasion when there was nobody to serve to first class the conductor did it himself.

Of course, everybody politely waits for the trolley to appear before having a cup of coffee. Never mind the fact that a) it might not appear and b) we've bloody paid for it, and anyway he's there serving so what does it matter to him.
