First Class Upgrades.

I am travelling from York to Edinburgh on Bank Holiday Monday with VTEC. Are weekend firsts upgrades available and how much will it cost ? The reason I ask is because it is not a Bank Holiday in Scotland.

Yes, and it's £15, but there's no free alcohol or hot food, and their provision of pretty much everything else has dropped considerably since their new onboard crew rotation system, so don't count on getting food/drink

We have debated this previously. We concluded that Weekend First is available for journeys starting in the country which has the Bank Holiday. On this occasion, I would expect Weekend First to be offered from Berwick-upon-Tweed on southbound journeys. There should be no problem obtaining it on a northbound York to Edinburgh journey.

VTEC work on the basis that the services provided are public holiday services and therefore Weekend First is offered for the whole route. For Scottish-specific holidays the train service is a normal weekday service and it is not offered.
