First Class tickets not available on certain routes?

I have recently been looking at booking a short journey ftom selby to hull. First class does not seem to be available any first class tickets available. Both Hull Trains and Transpennine have first class seating.

Are certain journies restricted to standard class only?

Looks like i was searching incorrectly. I used selby as my example as it was my second search that i had a problem with.

I also searched howden to hull, and using yorkies link i noticed no first class available.

As howden is unstaffed and no tvm, tempted to jump on a tpe or ht service and try to buy a 1st ticket to see what happens!

They would most likely sell you a combination of tickets, if they didn't come up with some other "hack" (e.g. selling you a standard ticket plus Weekend First).

Until recently there was no direct 1st class tickets between Sheffield and Macclesfield/Stoke on Trent changing at Stockport.
The fare is set by Northern, who do not run between Sheffield and Stockport and have no 1st class on the New Mills Central route and so understandably didn't see it as a priority.
They do now but I don't.

Howden for many years was served only by the York locals (second class only since the 70s? - now Northern) and then by an open access operator - TPE are newcomers which perhaps explains why they haven't got around to it.

Other examples are middlesbrough to Wigan or uttoxeter.
