First Class question

With the current exception of EMT, are their any operators who offer first class accomodation WITHOUT displaying the recognised yellow line above the windows?

I well remember Virgin's disastrous efforts with 'Club Class' before they hurriedly reverted to yellow lines and first class once more.

I don't think that those blue outer suburban trains on SWT have yellow lines over the first class section - I seem to recall them having pale blue dots.

GNER didn’t use the yellow First Class stripe, and nor does the new East Coast livery. In fact, I think that East Coast trains have been devoid of the yellow stripe since privatisation: I could be wrong, but I think that despite NX East Anglias’ loco hauled mark 3 FOs having a yellow stripe, that the equivalent HST mark 3s on East Coast never got a yellow stripe when painted into NX livery.DarloRich is also correct in saying that First TPE don’t have one either, and neither does Hull Trains although FGW does.

I don’t think Grand Central use it either (Not sure, haven't really been looking out for it when travelling with them).

But GC do have a silver/gold door arangement to tell you which is cattle and which is first class ( although cattle on GC is pretty good!)

Yeah that's true, you do get differentiation between classes with the door colour. Does that apply to the 180s as well? I know that the HSTs have it, but I can't say I've ever noticed on the Adelantes.

Additionally, London Midland use a green stripe over first class instead of a yellow one.

Just seen a Pendolino and VWC don't on them, but I'm pretty sure they do on Super-Voyagers, so nice and consistent.

Yeah the Super Voyagers have it. I was just wondering if the Pendolinos did or not. As you say there seems to be a total lack of consistency over its’ application even within each company. In the case of the Pendos they probably don’t want to draw too much attention to just how much of the train is first class…

The WAG express certainly does, but the Manchester-Holyhead loco hauled trains didn't, they were formed of former-VXC Mk2s, but was the service supposed to have first class?

Going back to the op, Thameslink didn't and I don't think FCC do either.

That's right, indeed none of SWT's current fleet use the yellow stripe. 444s also have the pale blue dots, 158, 159 and 458 have bodyside numbers by the relevant doors and windows.
