I was surprised to find the 14:37 Clapham Junction to London Victoria service had first class and standard class in the timetable today.

The train comes from Epsom and I thought all trains from Epsom only listed standard class in the timetable. Is this change today due to engineering works south of Epsom or is it just that first class only operates on a Sunday?

I came across it last year on a train originating from Epsom Downs but that was a couple of timetables ago. Again that surprised me.

For those not local to the area, the trains have first class areas even when the timetable says standard class only.

Typically they're declassified first so anyone can sit there. Someone must've changed the Accommodation status in the Train Header details to apply first & standard seating (code B iirc) without realising.

Otherwise it'd typically be code S to force Std Class seating.

They really don’t make it very clear, to be honest. Thameslink do, by displaying it on the modern-style PIS on-board, but Southern give little if any indication at all when first class sections are declassified.
