First Class Meridian Refurbishment

Does anybody know who is going to be doing the refurbishment of the first class on the Meridians? The work is due to begin in spring apparently. Standard class will be done next year.
For a preview look in the latest edition of journeys magazine. The seats and curtains are going to be a blue colour (looked like the blue colour that is used on the 222 livery) to brighten it up a bit.

Maybe they don't want the Meridians out of service for long while the HSTs are being refurbished . The 5 cars only have 1 and three-quarter first class carraiges and it just looks like a quick change of material so it shouldn't take long.

The HSTs will be done at the same time as the first class on the Meridians. Starting soon. Don't really know why they need to do the Meridian first class as there is nothing wrong with the interior and it is not very old / looking worn out.

The IC seats are luxury though, though agreed the Midland Mainline interior looks a bit shabby now (wouldn't say dated though, I like it and it's quite modern :???

Do you reckon the mk3s are starting to be refurbished? 2 cars are already out of service, seeing as a 6-car HST is running with no buffet

IC70 seats are comfortable, although offer little head support, splinter into many pieces in a crash and don't offer much legroom.

I just can't get comfortable in the HST seats, unlike the Meridian seats which in my opinion are really comfortable (I also find standard class Meridian seating to be more comfortable than first!).

As for the HSTs I think they are looking a bit dated with a few dodgy bits here and there, I'm quite looking forward to EMT refurbing them. I like what XC have done with their HSTs (nice and modern) but I don't think EMT will be doing them to that standard.

The new seats in the Class 158s are far from comfortable for a long journey, they are the same fitted to the FGW HSTs and they are a bit hard and upright for a long journey.

EMT only plan to change the seat covers. The xc refurb on the hsts is excellent apart from the distinct lack of worthy catering.

You're definately NOT the only one who really likes the IC70 seats. I love 'em. Instantly comfortable (although bizarrely that last EMT set I did with you and Brandon I didn't like so much ) and I can fall asleep in them easily if I allow myself to. Unlike on other modern cr-ap (yes, I said it. Not often I say that, but compared to this luxury...), I can sit in the seat for hours without getting uncomfortable.

The First Class IC70 seats rule. There's no better seats on the network. Fact. End of. Period. If I could have afforded it, I'd be sat in one on this NXEC HST (full real set! ) right now. I'll accept sitting in a Standard Class one though in 42226, they're just fine.

Not sure which are/were the best though, MML/EMT, GNER/NXEC or FGW. Since I spent many, many happy hours on board FGW sets, I'm tempted to go for them but those MML First Class seats, they're something else, they're pure luxury. Maybe we ought to put it to a poll on another thread...

So yeah, you'll never be alone in fanship of the IC70 (SC or FC) Miles!

I have to agree there, the AXC refurb job was a good 'un and I was reasonably comfortable for the parts I was sitting down on when I did the AXC HST on the 2026 ABD - EDB in December 2008.

So, EMT are keeping their IC70s. I'm pleased if that's the case. I personally find them very comfortable, in both standard and first. Where did the information about them splintering in crashes come from- I'd like to see that documented! In reality, I'd imagine if any seat was exerted to the full force of a high-speed crash, it would disintegrate! I realise by 'todays' H&S standards, they aren't quite high enough- but these sort of rules come from the people who would fit seatbelts to rolling stock if they could!

FGW fitted new seats in response to problems with the seating involved in a number of the GWML incidents in the 90/early 2000s.
