There are now a large number of First Class lounges at rail stations across the country. Some, such as the Virgin Trains lounges, allow entry to any type of First Class ticket, but others, such as the NXEC lounges, only allow full Open ticket holders entry.

Any contenders for the best and worst out there?

Would this include alternative hotels which you can also access, where First Class lounges are not available?

Some TOCs apply restrictions, like VT and NXEC, which you can only access with Open First Class tickets
Others like FSR will allow you access with any valid First Class ticket, even an AP

Nooooo your both definately wrong about VT!

Virgin Trains accept ALL FC tickets, which are valid on the Virgin Trains network- so both open and AP FC tickets allow the passenger travelling on the ticket to use the First Class lounge, on the date of travel.

I should know about the lounges.. I've used them enough times!! 8)

You should try standard, just once, for the experience ;)
Not if it was like the 16.55 Man Picc to gatwick Airport service today he shouldnt have. It was awful with up to 30 people standing at any time in one coach . it is long since time voyager trains were made compulsory reservation on safety ground alone.

A packed train is safer in a collision IIRC...... less flying debris..........

That is also why the XC FC AP fares are good, since that quota is one of the last to sell out. You won;t see your refreshments, since you cant get to the buffet, but you get a nice seat.
