First class Liverpool street to Norwich.

Hi there,
can anyone tell me if it is worth paying the extra to go first class on this route, is there much difference in the carraiges, seats, service etc?

Couldn't tell you about the train/journey, but there is an unusual fare anomaly here:

London Terminals-Norwich FOR £131.00 (unrestricted)
London Terminals-Norwich 1st Class CARNET £117.50 (also unrestricted)

I am assuming a carnet allows multiple journeys to be made over a period of time, so surely nobody would ever buy the FOR? - at least according to Avantix 5.

Classic BR spec Mk3 coaches. 2+1 table seating in 1st, all the ones I have been on were the later Mk3b FOs with the pullman type of seats that the Mk4s had until recently, they may also have some Mk3a coaches with IC70 seats. In my opinion one of the most comfortable coaches available, far better than most of the modern stock.

No freebies in 1st but outside peak you would be practically guaranteed a bay of 4 to yourself. If you like peace and quiet it is probably worth it.

I'm certain that the carnet price shown is per individual ticket and not for the whole bundle, otherwise it would be commercially insane.

You used to get a copy of the Evening Standard on afternoon/evening departures from Liverpool St but that stopped when the restaurant staff went 18 months ago. Ironically this paper is now free anyway!

There is a First class service on 05.40, 06.10, 06.40, 06.55 & 07.40 up but everything comes has to be paid for & on all other services you should expect to queue at the buffet counter.
