Computer programmers don't always get things right, but if any had programmed the actual machines wrong in this respect, I think we'd have heard about it by now.
I don't wish to re-ignite the debate that has been done to death here regarding the downloading of Avantix Traveller software and using it for free, but in my view this is an example of why I don't see it as morally wrong to do so. Not only should the data be freely available, but the software has bugs in it and isn't in a state that would be considered fit for public consumption. It's not aimed at the general public and the release of the CD is just a spin-off which they did under pressure after Avantix Traveller NFM05 was accidentally made available as a public download by ATOC on their website. If others believe it to be morally wrong to use this for free, then they can choose not download it, pay to find out about fares if they want, and are entitled to that view, but I'm sticking with my view on the matter.

Firstly as has been pointed out- YP holders do not usually get discount on 1st class fares, (except Advance).
Secondly, STAR TIS does not permit you to discount a YP 1st Class Fare, (with the above exception). If you try to, it simply shows the undiscounted fares.
TVMs simply hide all first class fares when you select YP railcard held.
Even if you could somehow find a machine malfunction- you are leaving yourself open to all sorts of problems as your railcard T+Cs do not allow you to travel in 1st class except with Advance tickets. I imagine you would be looking at an excess between the amount you've paid and the full fare 1st class ticket.
