Yes, they do. Even the free wine! And they now include lounge access in EMT lounges (except after 1600 Mon-Fri at London St Pancras, where a £5 supplement will apply - this is presumably to cover the cost of the wine that's provided after this time).

Oh Thanks for your reply. I am not too sure I will ready for wine at 10am! But it will be interesting to see what comes my way!

Yes, sadly, the wine is only available on certain evening departures! Although this is probably for the best.

East Midlands Trains' First Class "complimentary" offering is very poor (just a few biscuits and no alcohol for adults), unless you are travelling between 4pm and 7pm.

All services between 4pm and 7pm have free wine, nuts and savoury snacks.

Plus, if you are travelling on the 16:55, 17:15, 17:30 and 17:55 departures from London, you can choose from a cake, a savoury pastry or cheese and biscuits. (It's worth pointing out that FC fares on those services are very high!)

If you are travelling at any other time during the day, you can buy some very nice dishes from the "All Day Menu", which are reasonably priced at £4.95 each. More info can be found here: http://bitURL.net/emtfirst.

Although of course their Advance fares, particularly at true off-peak times, tend to be fairly cheap. I have managed to get Leeds-London for £20 single only about a week in advance, compared with £80-odd for Leeds-London on East Coast.
I paid for my on-board food, but a bowl of soup and a roll, then a plate of sandwiches cost me about £8. There was plenty of tea and coffee which was all free. So all in all, I thought EMT represented pretty good value. They then emailed me offering me 10% off my next journey, which I used to buy a London-Sheffield Advance ticket for my journey home.

What you have to remember is that the maximum journey time is under three hours on the MML. So that excuses it slightly, However the EMT first class offerings are poor outside peak times, and often there is no more than a trolley on a lot of services (well, i didt see anything buffet-y going on in the buffet car, and one once service advertised as hot food available (according the my mate who booked the tickets, although this was at a weekend so maybe he misunderstood) Didint even have a buffet car!


Personally I think the service should be improved a little, however the advance prices are rather good, Maybe extending free water+orange juice to weekend services, and maybe adding sandwiches to weekday services (or like half price on food or somthing?)

Never the less, The interior of the HST's is nice, and the meridians are pretty good too (the HST's seem more Like first class to me (low backed seats, soft ride Loco hauled), with the meridians more Buisness class (harder hight backed seats, harder ride, DMU)

It's not really 'free'. It is included in the price. If you have a cheap ticket, then it is unlikely that much in the way of complementaries will be included.

The service was better, and the prices were lower, back in MML days.
