First Capital Connect through the night (Thameslink route)

According to the Christmas & New Year timetable book for the Thameslink part of FCC, trains are running through the central section between London Bridge and St Pancras International (although not stopping at Farringdon or City Thameslink) on most nights until the morning of Tuesday 3rd January. I can't remember the last time there wasn't a closure on this route overnight.

Believe City is opening at 09:00 every morning at the moment, going north through it at about half 8, the first train stopping was at 09:01.

Just a slight extra bit of walk for the passengers, help them burn off some of the Christmas excesses

It's a Saturday amended service so City won't open. Blackfriars is all of two minutes walk away so it's not that important.

This is the first time in a good few years that the Core has been open in the holiday season. In only a few months it will become normal to be open all the time with the final Core blocks planed for May. Thameslink is starting a period of hopefully quiet getting on with the job with London Bridge and new trains coming at some future point.

On New Year's Eve, Blackfriars will be closed from 6pm and City Thameslink from 9pm, just incase you were planning to travell to the stations on the day.

Looking forward to it (probably will need it to be fair ), but as I use the Holborn exit rather than St Pauls its a bit more than 2 minutes so I'm going to Farringdon to see if they will accept my City ticket there. It's only 2 days...

Think it's down to staffing-farringdon is a tube station so overnight it closes and therefore they can't allow people on or off the train.

The train will still stop there to change voltage but doors stay closed.

Nope, National Rail says the normal staffing hours are 24 hours a day. I reckon it's just for some more building work to take place. Don't know if it is actually staffed overnight if just the NR bit of the station is open and how rostering staff works overnight at Farringdon then!

The overwhelming majority of LU stations have staff rostered 24 hours per day, including Farringdon which has a station supervisor on duty overnight.

That's what I was thinking, would Farringdon have more staff overnight or just the same amount as every other station does overnight though?

I don't think that Thameslink trains have ever stopped at Farringdon between about 00.40 and 05.00.

It's more to do with the fact that Farringdon is currently LUL controlled but the set up at the station is changing. Now with a NR entrance, the Thameslink franchise is able to open the station without needing the full complement of LUL. Long as there is some LUL on the station and trained FCC staff, the Thameslink side of the station can be opened. Note all staff at Farringdon have to be passed out by LUL staff on their way of doing things. I had a couple of hours with LUL staff there before I could work there.
