It appears 365s can work (presumably not in service) with a 317, since there is a picture on flickr of two coupled at Stratford.

Can they work together out of service (or even in service?)

Not in service, however you can rescue trains with other classes provided that the units are only coupled mechanically and not electrically. The only restriction is that you must rescue with equal coaches or more i.e an 8 car must be rescued with an 8 car or more. The other restriction is only 3 pantographs can be raised on the whole train.
