how many places, outside the major cities, have a bus service provided by First Bus before a 22:00 kick off, let alone a return service after midnight?

From Bristol if you tried to go home beyond the northern edge of Bristol (ie. to Thornbury, Yate & Chipping Sodbury) after midnight then not many. In fact I think nowhere.

To places south and east of Bristol the last direct journey from Bristol to Weston-s-Mare is at 2350 but there are two late journeys on Weston-super-Mare, via. Portishead and Clevedon of which the last is at 0215: these take around 75 minutes. Bristol to Bath, via. Keynsham, also has night journeys and Bristol itself has a fairly expansive nightbus network. The last bus from Bristol to Wells is at 0010 which is a 376a serving Paulton and Midsomer Norton (which the direct 376 does not).

We used to have First bus on the Wirral, they were so bad they were like a cowboy company, First sold Wirral & Chester to Stagecoach in Autumn 2011, takeover was completed in Winter 2012.

First in Wessex posted events in Dorchester on a winter Sunday, suggesting passengers use the X51. Which doesn't run on Sundays.

Their marketing team is based in Leeds, I believe, and have no clue.
I asked ages ago what was the bus fare and latest bus between Bridport and Dorchester, and over a series of tweets, would only give the information if I told them the route number. I played dumb, and never got an answer.
When a bus company asks a passenger about their own bus service, something has gone wrong.
I have left X but would be interesting to repeat the experiment. (£3 flat fare notwithstanding)

Can't be half as bad as the people behind the York City Football Club website telling fans that Pullman won't be running a dedicated coach to a Tuesday night match in Pickering, but they can use the 840!
