Yep didn't think it would be too long. There WAS a Streetlite on the 70 today! I got on it to head home from town. That'll do me I thought, a decent enough single decker bus. As I allways avoid getting on a 70 if it's an Eclipse. I had to make do with an aisle seat for half the journey though, but still. Good to have a much nicer bus on the 70 for a change! And the first time I've got an a 70 to travel between Centre/Broadmead and Horfield for over 2 years now!

HERE is evidence that double deckers can go into the turning circle at Temple Meads!
That's stopped at the rear bus stop so would have been able to use the first turning area rather than going up to the bit where the canopy is.

This is the bus stop that the 70 uses to set down. Where it waits there for several minutes(or however long it can be), before going to the 8 & 9 bus stop to start the journey. But if the canopy is a problem, then why can't they use this other stop as the 70 bus stop instead? First Bristol would probably say "Unfortunately this is not possible"!!
Anyway, let's see what happens come the September 7 Bristol bus changes. We're supposedly getting buses with extra seating capacity on the 70 from then! Which must surely mean double deckers, as there are no known single deckers with more than the 41 seating capacity of the Eclipses! Let's see! News of the September 7 changes should be known within the next month or so now.

Is this the first turning area? If not, then it's not a problem! The reason that Enviro 400 got wedged in the canopy was due to it using the second turning area!
I highly doubt the 70 will be operated fully by Volvo B10L's.

IF the 70 were to become operated by these buses, I'd be happy with that! And I'd be able to get on the 70s again rather than avoid them because they're Eclipses.

The Eclipses really aren't that bad to be fair. It'd be fine if say 3 Geminis and 7 Eclipses worked it.

Whenever I see the 70 near Montpellier heading towards Ashley Down it is always fairly full. And I'm sure like mentioned above if it was decker operated more people would use it and it would boost passenger numbers further.

69454 on the 70 last night looking pretty full (heading towards UWE at about 2030 at Colston School).
47448 was on the 70 yesterday too, first time I've seen a Streetlite on the route!
I still am not really sure as to why the 70 was transferred to Hengrove!

Suppose it makes sense. Just seems a little backwards for all the 70s to then go all the way to Hengrove having terminated at Temple Meads/UWE. As before, Lawrence Hill was kind of on the route, if that makes sense.

It is silly but no other choice, I still personally think a Patchway depot would be better placed than Hengrove for most services. Then again the 8 and 9 are also Hengrove!

That is true. I think with a route such as the 75/76 I think it could be joint between Patchway and Hengrove!

It could also take the 1.2 40 73 away from Lawrence hill so the 8 9 and 70 could go back there

Seen a Marshall Dart on the 70 today! Nice little buses in my opinion. HOWEVER with only about 25-29 seating capacity, these are not what is needed on the 70! And is going the opposite direction to what we need on the 70, more seating capacity! I eagerly await the "announcement" First Bristol will supposedly be bringing us soon about more seating capacity to be available on service 70 from September!

I can't see Geminis appearing on the 70 anytime soon sadly. With some spare at Hengrove, if they are adament to put singles on the 70 then it really is the last of their priorities!

Up untill today I didn't know that any Marshall Darts(like the ones being used on the 17 I mean) were on the 70. Haven't seen them on the 70 before or any postings on here to mention them being spotted.

Oh sorry, I'm thinking of the ALX200's (the range starting with 42732).
Hengrove do have a few Marshall Darts. 41200 comes to mind as that was on the 20 yesterday. The seats aren't too bad on those ones but the ALX200 ones aren't great.

Just found this beauty of a photo of 70 from back in 2005! A 1984 reg former Greater Manchester Leyland Olympian and in a UWE livery/branding! Great stuff! I don't remember seeing this one!

Don't know about you other two regulars on this thread. But I'm eagerly awaiting September 1st when we're supposedly getting buses with increased capacity on the 70! I will only believe this when I see it! Though still no "announcement" from First about this yet. On that Monday September 1st when leaving for work in the morning I'm going to make a special point of walking along the short stretch of Filton Avenue to co-incide with when a northbound or southbound 70 is due, so that I can see just what buses these will be! Wouldn't surprise me atall though if I'm dissapointed and an Eclipse on the 70 goes by!
