First Bath Outer Zone season tickets

Hello all,

I'm a regular bus traveller, but practically all journeys over the couple of years have been on rovers, Wiltshire Day Rover and West of England ticket.

From next month I may need to take to bus to work from Trowbridge to Westbury industrial estate. From what I've heard you can't get a return anymore, and a single from Trowbridge to Westbury is £2.50, I know as I have had to do it only once last week but was only going one way anyway and got a lift back after.

I was thinking of getting a season ticket which looks like you have to get a Bath Outer Zone season at £80 for a Month, seems a lot but if I can only get Singles each day that would cost me about £100, so a season would be better but I guess I can use it as a Bath Outer Zone rover and travel anywhere in the zone? Might be useful on Saturdays to travel about.

But can you use the Inner Zone as a through route? Say I wanted to do Trowbridge to Melksham or Chippenham, with the 234 gone the only effective way of doing it is 265 to Bath then 272 or 231 to Melksham or Chippenham respectively.

I might try the First app and see if I can get a season mTicket

First of all, does the Bath outer zone cover Trowbridge and Westbury? If it does, then yes in theory you can use the ticket anywhere to travel in that zone, but it would only be that zone. I believe you would have to get a West of England ticket if Chippenham (not sure about Melksham). 231 was withdrawn too. The outer zone ticket will cover any of Bath inner zone.

Would it be cheaper going by train? Even though its around seven to eight minutes either way. I'm guessing that the industrial estate is the West Wilts Tading Estate which is practially a 5 - 10 minute walk from Westbury railway station.

You could always get yourself one of them Touch smartcards. I've even asked Wiltshire Council to see if they could introduce a Week and Month Rover alongside of their current day rover and if that isn't possible then I've asked them to see if they can work with the four councils that cover Avon so that the Travelwest smartcard could be used in the former West Wiltshire district, which would make obvious sense.

Train
Home to station, about 5-7 minutes walk, 6 minutes on the train, circa 15 minute walk, about 12 on a power walk.

Bus
Home to Park Street bus stop, 2 minutes, about 15 mins on the bus, but a circa 5 minute walk from the bus stop by Club Ice to Chemical Road on the estate

Go to Melksham for an hour - it would feel like a day!!

Not done a Wiltshire Day Rover for a couple of years. Must rectify that soon!

I know I used to live there from 1987 - 2006, how I survived I don't know, at school me and my mates took Badgerline to Bath on Saturdays because there was something to actually do there, that was obviously before McDonalds existed in Melksham and the train wasn't much use...

I did have a good read of your day out. You certainly clocked up the miles! Sounds like a good day out. Stagecoach are usually pretty decent in terms of presentation so that's a disappointment. However, I have to say that Faresaver are much better than they were of old. New or newer fleet helps but they're certainly much better in terms of presentation these days (though a former WG Solo yesterday on the X34 didn't look like it had seen a power hose for a while).

I know exactly what you mean in terms of drivers accepting tickets and yes, I've done the same as you in the past in taking a print of the leaflet. I have managed the odd local AvonRider trip and had exactly the same issue with Severnside Transport. Just smile, explain, and most drivers aren't too fussed!!

Pressure on time (work, home, other half, other interests NOT just public transport) mean I do struggle to get out as much as I'd like though I've managed a reasonable number over the last couple of years so really can't complain.

Last WDR I did was probably a couple of years ago but it's 25 years (!) since I did my first one. Eeek!!

We are lucky to have that and AvonRider as multi operator tickets on our doorstep.

Go to Melksham for an hour - it would feel like a day!!

I went there once, in 1985, That hour seemed like a lifetime (and I've spent two hours in Weston-Super-Mare so I know of which I speak)

Larger area tickets cover smaller area tickets, e.g. Outer covers Inner. M-Ticket app should be the best way forward, battery allowing!.
