Registrations for the weekend night buses starting on 28 June 2025 are starting to be processed by the Traffic Commissioners system. Only N1 on so far. Stagecoach Bluebird have already registered an N6 and N8 going to Westhill and Stonehaven/Portlethen starting the following week.

I wonder if the night bus network at the weekend will be as extensive as when it was at Christmas time, and whether it might be free again or not
It will not be free. From link before, normal fares and concessions will apply. Presumably new fares will be set outwith the city for Banchory and Inverurie. Bustimes.org now has the timetables. There is no service to Ellon. From the text, Bluebirds N6 and N8 are commercial and not subsidised so probably will have premium night bus fares.

A bit gutted the Ellon one hasn’t made a comeback but I’ve adapted my evening plans since they stopped pre Covid, going out and finishing earlier so I don’t think I’d make much use of it. I’m guessing it didn’t do too well over the festive period in terms of loading (there were a few issues with the drivers refusing to stop where they were supposed to, I had two drive by the one time I tried to use it and ended up having to fork out for a taxi, I know others who had similar experiences, I also saw some doing the route with “out of service” on the board which was baffling, so I wonder if these had an impact on usage)

Assuming it’ll go through Dyce, on to the A947 towards Newmachar, turn left onto Dyce Drive and follow the road round to Airport Road.

They are just a faster updated version of what they had before. They do not have the improvements that York and Worcester have.

Seen them about they make different noises to the previous ones but also seem to be faster

main reason the different units is that they cannot produce the older units anymore and ticketer have moved to a tablet based solution instead of the previous screen, will be cheaper for ticketer to manufacture and make it easier to swap out in future too.
With the entry into service of 71013 today, all 12 repowers are now in use.

Has the supply of fuel been sorted out now?
There is additional refuelling equipment at Kittybrewster, but not yet in operation. The preliminary date for re entry into service is starting the second week in August with initial examples freeing up the remaining Streetlights to go to Glasgow. It is the 70 plate batch that will return to service, the newer ones awaiting the green hydrogen plant opening which is supposed to be 2026.

It’s a shame the hydrogen situation has been such a mess. Still - Aberdeen will have a pretty modern fleet by the time these buses enter service.

The Streetlites yes, other than that depends on how many of the 15 can be made serviceable and the time it will take, plus how much hydrogen will be available. Some have not been looked at since they returned from Wrightbus and others spent a long time under repair and never re entered service.

Would any of the locals on here be able to confirm whether First Aberdeen are to run the four mainstream park and ride services for the Tall Ships events later this month; also if the operator is known for the accessible park and ride and the accessible site shuttle service, please, or whether McGill's, Stagecoach or other operators may be involved?

Sorry, partial answer to my own question. First Aberdeen are now showing proposed timetables for TS1/3/6, which by my reckoning means alternative sourcing for TS2 and TS4 and the accessible site shuttle (the latter perhaps smaller vehicles). Any further info would be appreciated. THanks

Stagecoach are doing the other 2 park and rides. The shuttle service from Union Terrace to the Tall Ships locations it is not know who will be doing so, it could be First as they have a lot of work on.

None of them have done many miles so if there’s enough hydrogen surely they can all be made fit for service ?

There’s 6 gone up.
3 of the hydrogen buses still have short MOTs left and are anticipated to be used this weekend during the Tall Ships Race visit. They have only just started looking at them, so there is a chance all may not be available. They appear to be using ready bottled hydrogen to fuel them.
