I’ve just got off a train from Ormskirk at Liverpool Central. As soon as the train exited the link tunnel and entered the old Mersey railway tunnel, I noticed that there was a fire in the 4 foot on the opposite (Moorfields bound) track! Liverpool central station is currently being evacuated.

Was it a small fire, capable of being put out with a fire extinguisher? Or a fire brigade job?

Funny you should ask…2 fire officers have just gone down to the platforms at Liverpool central with 2 fire extinguishers. The fire was small when we passed it. We’re being held in the public concourse upstairs from the platforms. All northern line trains have been suspended according to PA announcements, but I reckon they’re prob running from Sandhills

Yes they are, I can see the would-have-been 1602 Liverpool Central to Southport is now at Sandhills and has just turned around there.

Looks like everything is through running since ~18:10, so can't have been too bad.

Yeah...was on a train from Headbolt to Sandhills and the driver announced over the PA when we left Kirkdake that he'd been given clearance to proceed all the way to Central. That was just before 6pm
