Fire at St Pancras hotel

The BBC are reporting a fire at the Midland Grand Hotel, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/6911959.stm.

Yeah, was at St Pancras around the time, they closed KXSP UND, and Euston Road... caused alot of confusion with only two Cust. Serv. staff at STP

Something caught fire or 'went off' in the basement apparently.

'Tis believed that sparks from equipment used to cut metal set some wood alight, (according to the Evening Standard anyway), which suggests that some CTRL contractors may have started something by accident.

Turned out someone was grinding something and a spark lit some dust and all the dust just caught fire. all fire regulations were in place, just a weird accident.

Thanks for that - 'tis a great shame that the hotel was virtually destroyed, but at least no-one was hurt.

It doesn't say anywhere about it being 'virtually destroyed' - it only suggests slight damage to the basement :???:.

Ah, sorry, I didn't read the BBC report - I was referring to something that I had seen in a newspaper last night.

I was caught up in that yesterday. While in a Taxi the cab driver said that something had caught fire and could still see fumes hanging about around the hotel building.

Marylebone Flyover was completely blocked because of it.

it wasnt destroyed to be honest, there's smoke damage but hardly any structural damage i've heard.

I got there an hour after it happened. And it looked like it was fairly minor. The was no obvious sign of damage anywhere, and the last fire engine was about to leave. The only remaining thing was the smell of smoke which lingered in the air around the corner with the British Library
