Not really, just which ever decent sized ski area in the Alps is the easiest to reach really.
Having lived in Grenoble, and incidentally I will be going there tomorrow from Leeds, I can recommend the resorts around there. I have skied Les Deux Alpes, Sept Laux, Chamrousse and they are all very good, although Les Deux Alpes is somewhat steeper than the average resort. Alpe d’Huez is also recommended although I’ve never been myself. Grenoble is very easy to reach from London, and you would have plenty of time to transfer up to resorts by bus or taxi.
Similarly for France you could easily reach one of the resorts in Les Trois Vallées system. Never skied there myself, but it is a colossal group of interlinked resorts that would keep you busy.
Given that you are London based I would consider Switzerland as well, you could easily reach the Jungfrau region or other resorts in the west half of Switzerland, and I dare say most of Switzerland would be doable depending on your tolerance for travel time and a long day. I have less experience of Swiss resorts, having only been to Jungfrau but Swiss transport is exceedingly unlikely to let you down.
In terms of booking, you can do both Eurostar and TGV (which I believe includes Lyria services to Switzerland, although they are more expensive than domestic TGVs even with FIP) through SNCF’s English line using the number found on the Rail Delivery Group guide. Obviously France will be cheaper overall, but Switzerland is probably more reliable for both transport and quality and quantity of snow.
Personally I would head for one of the large but not colossal resorts like Les2Alpes or Jungfrau. They are accessible and will have things to explore but aren’t so large to be overwhelming, and you can actually get a bit more familiar with the pistes rather than constantly holding back for not knowing what’s round the corner.
If you do go to near Grenoble, pick up a bottle of Chartreuse liqueur and make sure to try some Tartiflette, or some Raclette in Switzerland.
