I am aware that there are 8 platforms but not sure which is best! I would like to see both LNER, Grand central, Hull trains and great northern. Which platform is best?

the central ones are best - but I got chucked off those the other day!

There's a footbridge not that far north of the station that may give a good view of trains, see https://goo.gl/maps/LF7db6uZybR2 (Google Maps calls its path Capital Ring, accessible on the east from Capital Ring Link).
