Having had a conversation with a friend this evening, the following came up:
He said that a couple of years ago (or thereabouts, I don't know exactly, though others with previous copies of NFM may be able to see) if travelling from any station on the Airedale Line (stations between Leeds and Skipton) into Leeds itself, it was cheaper to buy a ticket to Crossgates instead (on the line to York, so necessary to travel through Leeds, changing trains there).
Using Keighley as an example origin station, I'm not sure if he was referring to a Keighley - Crossgates SINGLE being cheaper than Keighley - Leeds SINGLE (at the time), or if he meant that a Keighley - Crossgates RETURN was cheaper than Keighley - Leeds RETURN -this fares anomaly has subsequently been closed, so I've no way of checking.
My question comes in that he said he knew of people buying the Keighley - Crossgates ticket, but finishing short in Leeds to take advantage of the fares anomaly. This would be with either a standard day single or day return ticket (not sure which, as above). He believes that people were stopped at Leeds barriers and told that doing this wasn't valid.
Is anyone able to confirm if stopping short in the above instance would be valid, taking into account that I'm unsure if it was a single or a return ticket that was held?
