Finepix S9500 Problem

Just came to turn my camera on, and the on/off switch is really stiff. At first, I couldn't get it to move at all. Now I can, and the camera works but the switch is still really tough. Somethings not right.

Possibly the cold temperature? Is it actually switching on?

Yeah, it's switching on now. But it's just really hard to move the switch around.

What I think could of caused it, was on my last trip, it was really cold and when the camera warmed up, there was a bit of condensation coming from the camera. Mostly the viewfinder and on/off switch.

Maybe some of the condensation has clogged the switch up a bit. Have you tried taking the batteries out then turning the switch on and off a few times?

Wiggle the switch a bit like craig says up and down a bit and in a multitude of directions but dont apply too much force otherwise you may brake it. Somethings probably jamming something. Is there a gap between it and body, can you see if its catching on something ? Run a piece of paper between switch and body in the gap to clear out any cack.

Yeah, the switch is moving. It's just really stiff. No amount of moving it back and forth seems to be helping.

Same happens on the 9600, and the little twiddly black knob on the top that changes the flash/multiple shot modes also gets stuck. I havent had a problem with the mode switch yet.

I just put up with it; the on/off switch doesn't work very well now, the viewfinder is really dim and gets darker the longer you leave it on, the screens broken, and various other problems.

Doesnt matter how hard you try and turn them, keep trying with force and it moves.

But I suppose you ignore anything i say.

I'll probably take it into a Jessops or something and bitch at them about it Will make me feel better.

Haven't had any problems with the viewfinder yet. Just the on/off switch.

Yeh the 9500 looks the same as the 9600 by the looks of the diagram you posted (only just came up) and it was the 'Command Dial' i was referring to getting stuck. Seems as though the 9xxx series have some common faults, but other than that they are good cameras.

Regarding the viewfinder, it may be because I had it out when I was steaming the other week, it may not (cant remember how it was broke)

So yeh, take her into Jessops and complain, its good fun and my lead to a fix.

Give us a shout if they can do anything, as mines got the same problems!

Its hard at the mo as I'm not near a Jessops, and by the time I've finished work and got home there's no time to go to portsmouth to find one.

I have same problem with my S9500, it is definitely condensation as it nearly always occurs after it has rained or when bringing the camera from a cold place to a warm place.

A quick look at the instruction manual and you will notice that it tells you not to bring the camera from a hot climate to a cold one, or vice versa, too quickly. However I did not notice anything about keeping it protected from the rain, but I wouldn't have it unprotected for too long in rain to find out.

jessops nearly went bust last year and closed loads of shops, i seem to remember buxton being one of em
