The 8.07 Guildford to Waterloo was cancelled this morning at 8.08 due to a train fault. The service that makes up the train is the 7.47 arrival from London, which leaves London at 6.50. Today it was cancelled throughout.

Given that was the case were South West Trains trying to find another set of carriages to run the service but had to give up because it wasn't possible? That would make sense given the late cancellation notice but there again where would they find spare coaches at short notice?

I did wonder if they were considering taking 4 coaches off the 8.20 to London via Working. Like the 8.20 it doesn't stop at any stations beyond Surbiton. It would have left late of course if they had done that but trains leave late for other reasons.

You've also got to consider the availability of drivers and guards (I believe that drivers have a set maximum driving hours before a mandatory break, does the same apply to guards?)

In this case it would be can they get the guard or driver to the location as it was just a train fault. These things rarely happen two days in a row so the service is fully running today as normal.
